This is by no means a COZY fantasy romance

Whomever decided to call this book a COZY fantasy romance has either never read this book or never read a cozy fantasy. This isn’t cozy. It’s fun and often light-hearted (and sometimes not), but it for sure does not give you the cozy feeling of sitting next to a warm fireplace on a rainy autumn day with a hot chocolate by your side. No, no, no. That being said, the book is magnificently written. I laughed out loud quite a few times. It was my first book by T. Kingfisher and will surely not be my last! While it can be read as a standalone, there is a volume 2 coming out in a few months and I need it. Halla, our protagonist, is a thirty-something, neurodivergent, mid-sized woman, which might seem like an odd list but those are the first reasons for this to stand out. The worldbuilding is great. (Also, it’s casually queer.) The romance is so cute and heartfelt, I loved both characters and I could immediately connect with them as well as understand their connection to each other. Around the 75% mark, a problem occurred that I had trouble understanding at first, but other than that this book was remarkably well written and I am officially a fan of this author.

Slow burn Romantasy with an interesting premise

I tend to love all T. Kingfisher books, and this one was no different. The premise and the romance in Swordheart are something new, and I loved the FMC, Halla. She is so funny and witty. We also had some characters overlap from the Saint of Steel books since Swordheart is set in the same world. I wasn‘t as drawn into the story as quickly as with the Saint of Steel series and also wasn‘t as invested in the romance. But I still enjoyed it quite a lot, and there was a point around 90% into the story where I had to stop reading the book for some time because I couldn‘t take the tension of one plot twist. As with other T. Kingfisher books, I loved the humour, the writing style in general, and the minor characters that stand out and make the story feel alive.

This was my second Kingfisher novel and my first romantasy by her and it was a lot of fun! Older, very quirky characters, a woman who knows what she wants (kinda), a grumpy mc who is still understanding, some magic, a cozy world and a weird quest :D I had a lot of fun reading this and will definitely continue this series! Also, Brindle 🥺🦡🤌🏻

With a couple of T. Kingfisher special editions coming up, I wanted to dive into the worlds of this author. I decided to start with Swordheart because a) standalone (of sorts) b) I was promised cozy and c) I love the trope of an entity living in a sword. And oh, this novel delivered! The book is indeed cozy, but also very funny with just the right kind of humor for me. It has a slightly older FMC (meaning not 18ish), and the romance is very sweet and not annoying at all. I'm excited to learn that there are many more books in the same world as Swordheart, so count me in for many more T. Kingfisher books on my tbr for this and the next years.

✨Fantasy Highlight✨

Love the man in the sword setup a lot!

How about unsheathing a sword and being face to face with an immortal who is sworn to defend the wielder who has his own age old back story and is ready to entagle his life with the clumsy big chested and talkative widdow? Welcome to the very entertaining world of swordheart, a suprise hit by Kingfisher in my opinion. It has all the necessary bits, fun, fights, love and hatred with some lovable characters and managable world building. I have to say however that kingfisher has a certain scheme she follows for the location use in her books. That is probably the only thing that i dislike about this book, which isnt a big deal to be honest.

I loved this so much!

This book is a lovestory between a almost 40 years old widow and a man that is bound to a sword. It is cute, hilarious, witty, characters feel genuine and the story is easily to follow, but not boring the least. There is one non-binary character in this, which took me embarrassingly long to notice because I am not used to the woding (pronouns they/them). But I really liked that Zale, especially the conversations they have with Halla about pee and the workings of magic 😆 I think Kingfisher is now one of my Top 3 authors of all-time:)

"Halla of Rutger's Howe had just inherited a great deal of money and was therefore spending her evening trying to figure out how to kill herself." One cannot mention Kingfisher's great sense of humor often enough. Really, reading her books is such a delight. But if you like plot-driven books, this book is probably not for you. In my eyes, it focuses a lot on the characters and on their interactions. The greatest part of this book is about the romance but also about finding your own family and a place where you belong. It makes me a little sad to say that I was more fond of the (albeit pretty important) side character, Zale. I loved this priest, they could switch from goofy to professional so nonchalantly! Have an example why Zale is precious and should get their own book: "Tactful Zale was jostled to death somewhere a few miles back. Now you get tired, cranky Zale." Halla I liked as well, how could you not, but her love interest, Sarkis, got on my nerves to be honest. And that's a shame, since this book focuses so much on their relationship. He's just too cranky and possessive for my taste. I mean, yes, he knows he's too possessive, reprimands himself repeatedly and this trait isn't handled like it's desirable, but still. I'm just not a fan of muscled, possessive alpha male leads. And he was SO obsessed with her breasts. I don't know why, but that is a huge turn off for me. These things make me feel like "Why, of course, he's a manly man, he SHOULD like breasts!" and this is so ... flat. Not that he's a sexist, mind you, but I would've liked him to focus more often on her personality than on her body. Still, I liked him with Halla, they were a good match. I'm just wondering if this book really is a standalone. The ending leaves room for a sequel, just as I hoped, so I guess I'll have to just wait and see.

So viel Gutes: der Ritter als Bodyguard, ältere, super sympathische Protagonisten, cosy, lustig, tolle Geschichte, die Welt (world of the white rat)...
