Das dritte "Abenteuer" von Alex Easton bringt uns nach Amerika. Diesmal betrifft ist Dentons Cousin, welcher bei der Erkundung einer Mine verschwunden ist. Jedoch ist dies nicht das seltsamste. Es kam ebenfalls ein seltsamer Brief von ihm an, der Denton an merkwürdige Geschehnisse erinnern, die er und Easton schon mal erlebt haben. Das Setting rund um die Mine und dem verschwunden Cousin haben mir gut gefallen. Zumal verlassene Minen ein optimaler Ort für eine Horrorgeschichte sind. Die Atmosphäre hat mir super gut gefallen und die Beschreibungen haben alles sehr gruselig wirken lassen. Allerdings war das auch nur am Anfang so. Der ganze Spannungsbogen war mir hier leider viel zu kurz und die Auflösung hinter allem kam viel zu schnell. Gefühlt wurde das Buch schon bei 70% aufgelöst und danach kam recht schnell die Lösung des Problemes. Auch das war mir viel zu leicht, wenn ich es mit den beiden Vorgängern vergleichen. Mir ist dadurch auch schnell der Gruselfaktor verloren gegangen da die Auflösung... naja, sehr abgespact und abwegig vorkam. Ich hatte mir mehr Spannung und Gruselfaktor erhofft. Der Schreibstil war jedoch wieder optimal zum Zwischendurchlesen, wodurch man schnell durchgekommen war. Der Humor war auch wieder richtig gut und unterhaltsam.
Lasst das Fragment einfach wieder ein Ganzes werden. (Wenn du das verstehst hast du das Buch inzwischen durch)
Ich war positiv überrascht als ich sah dass es nun einen dritten Teil gibt. Empfohlen hierbei: Abendliche Stimmung und ein warmer Tee und dann jeh nach Lesetempo in einem Setting für den Grusel am Abend. Als ob Easton noch nicht genug durchgemacht hat. Nun geht es auch noch nach Amerika und ab in die Mienen wo jemand verschwunden ist. Doch was unten auf einen wartet sorgt auf jeden Fall für Überraschung. Ich bin immer der Meinung es wird bei den Büchern mehr auf die Atmosphäre gelegt als auf das "Was ist es denn nun" (was natürlich aber auch mit rein spielt.) Hier was es tatsächlich sogar wieder mehr als im zweiten Buch. Auf jeden Fall jedem Freude mit der es lesen will.
Alex Easton has to visit America. And if you know Alex from former novellas - you know this is something they really don't want to do. Alex is a former soldier from Gallacia, bound to be thrown into folklore and meet mysterious creatures they don't actually believe in. And this is their third adventure. What I want to start with is that I so much admire that the narrator is a Avi Roque, a transmasc non-binary actor. This is perfect, as Alex is non-binary as well. The German audiobook (at least part 1) has opted for a male author, and the character description for Alex there is male as well. This does the story a great disservice, as Alex' adventures are steeped in questions of individuality, being seen, being your true self, and accepting what is different. This audiobook transports this perfectly. What Stalks the Deep has me hooked from the start, and made me cheer as the plot unfolds. It's not so much the horror of it all, but the things I mentioned above. Humanity is way more than "being human", and there's things lurking in the deep that we should embrace instead of fear. Time and again we have a linguistic part as well. In Alex' native tongue there is an abundance of pronouns, some even used for objects. And so it tells of the power of language, and how words affect thinking. I'm not equipped to elaborate further, so I guess just read the book. :) This novella is short but so rich, and I don't want to say any more about the plot. Just go ahead and experience it for yourself. It's really not only for horror fans. Alex Easton returns to solve yet another mystery in the third installment of The Sworn Soldier Series and delivers a deadpan humour and wayward resilience to the horrible and unknown of the deep, deep down. You never know what you will find in the pitch dark of an abandoned mine. Easton knows that it can't possibly be anything good. But when a friend calls for help, you've got no choice but to jump into the abyss. This novella was entertaining, atmospheric, and humorous thanks to the main character's reluctant narration and observation of their comrades. The group dynamics were multifaceted and never boring. I thoroughly enjoyed being a fly on the (stone) wall of this cave.
Das Warten auf Band 3 hat sich gelohnt 🤩 Spannung bis zum Schluss, der typische Humor, Body Horror,... alles dabei, was ich mir von einem Kingfisher- Buch erhoffe.
Ich hab lange auf ein Wiedersehen mit Easton und Angus hingefiebert und als ich dann endlich die ersten Seiten lesen konnte, war es tatsächlich, als würde man alte Freunde wiedertreffen. Dieses Mal geht es nach Amerika, das Land der unbegrenzten Möglichkeiten- offenbar auch unbegrenzt in dem, was sich in einer stillgelegten Mine in West Virginia verstecken kann. Zu meiner Schande muss ich eingestehen, dass es 3 Bücher gebraucht hat, um mir bestimmte Details über Easton klarzumachen, die meine bisherige Vorstellung der Charaktere auf den Kopf stellt 🙈 Meine lange Leitung zeigte sich dann auch daran, dass ich erst 3/4 des Buches lesen musste, bevor ich begriffen habe, wo sich die eigentliche Bedrohung versteckt... Aber all das schreibe ich einfach dem sehr guten Erzählstil zu. Die Verpflechtung von klassischen Vorlagen, realen Naturphänomenen und Horror hat mich wieder daran erinnert, was mir an Band 1 so gut gefallen hat. Und auch wenn Band 3 für mich nicht an den Start der Reihe herankommt- wer die anderen Bücher mochte, wird auch an diesem seine Freude haben. Bleibt nur die Frage: Ist das wirklich das Ende der Reihe? QAQ

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Ein wenig schwächer als die ersten zwei Bände und sehr viel weniger gruselig. Auch der Body Horror hielt sich in Grenzen, im Gegensatz zu dem ersten Band. Insgesamt finde ich Alex Easton aber einen unfassbar coolen Protagonist und ich mag auch die anderen wiederkehrenden Charaktere. Wie immer ein Mega Spaß ein Buch von T. Kingfisher zu lesen. Ich hoffe es kommen noch mehr Sworn Soldier Bände!
