    Great Sequel 🫶🏻✨

I loved this book as much as the first one! We continue the story of our group of unlikely heroes just as they reach Anouket City and now have to find out the secret behind the monstrous Clocktaurs. The plot is suspenseful but steadily paced and focuses a lot on the characters and their relationship. I loved how some of the characters grew and changed, and of course, there is the budding love between Caliban and Slate that is just as sweet as all the romances T. Kingfisher writes. But I also greatly enjoyed how Learned Edmund changed throughout the story. I think it’s great how the author manages to write characters that are so flawed but also extremely likable. They just seem so real that way. The banter was top-notch as always and had me laughing out loud at times. I also loved that we got a lot more time with the gnolls. They are so fascinating, and their view on humans is just hilarious. And then there is the ending… I did not see it coming, and it kind of broke me. I was literally at the edge of my seat for the last pages.

I cried. The last 20 pages ripped my heart out. And the last chapter put it back together. T. Kingfisher is my new favorite author. I don’t know if I can read other books now.

Good conclusion, liked the first one better though. (Except for the gnolls. I love gnolls.)
