✨ 5✨ Review of Silvercloak by L. K. Steven “This is how villains are made” I’ll be honest — at first, I wasn’t so sure about this book. It started slow, almost carefully — like a spell still finding its rhythm. But then something shifted. A few chapters in, it had me completely. And it didn’t let go again. What began as quiet curiosity turned into full-blown obsession. The world — dark, intricate and full of whispered power — felt alive in my hands. It’s the kind of magic you can almost taste: wands, cloaks and potions that pulse with something forbidden, Illusions that blur truth and lie, Prophecies that taste of fate and ruin. Saffron, our Silvercloak, is everything I love in a protagonist — fierce, flawed, and heartbreakingly human. She carries secrets like scars and makes choices that haunt her long after they’re made. And Levan… I don’t even have the words. The tension between them hums quietly beneath every page — not loud, not cliché and just inevitable. I think what astonished me most was how layered it all was. Every betrayal, every flicker of hope, every line of dialogue felt deliberate. The story grows heavier and sharper with each chapter, until you realise you’ve stopped breathing somewhere along the way. And the ending — gods. It left me staring into the dark, broken. I need the next part. NOW! Really If I could give Silvercloak six stars, I would. Because it reminded me how stories can hurt beautifully (seems to be something I love, to suffer because I like books that make me cry) Q: what’s your last 5⭐️ read / highlight? (Also sorry that the reviews are so late right now I’m really not good with words right now so they take ages to write…)

Let me say this upfront: 6/5 stars highlight. My mind is blown. What will I do with myself now?
This book is perfection start to finish. A magic system with wands, spells and potions. Magical powers that are fueled by pleasure and pain. Saffron is a Silvercloak aka one of the good guys. And also has a secret, because she is immune to magic. Levan is a Bloodmoon aka one of the bad guys. And also the kingpin's son. Yes, this is a Mafia-esque story. And while I'm not too keen on Mafia stories, I loved this book with all my heart. Saffron goes undercover with the Bloodmoons, and dangerous doesn't even begin to describe it. But things are not as they seem, and she puts everything at risk for the mission, and herself. Oh, did I mention Timeweaving? Well yes there is the forbidden power of manipulating time, but don't worry, the timey-wimey is not used willy-nilly, it's with plan and woven into a tight - and did I already say perfect? - story. The ending was all I wished for and also not what I expected. I need book 2 now! Between this book and Our Infinite Fates, @LauraSteven has become an auto-buy author for me, who I trust completely with any story. 5/5 stars (and more if possible) Thank you @netgalley and @randomhouse @delreybooks for the eARC! #Silvercloak #Netgalley #Bookstagram

Silvercloak by L.K. Steven
There is not a single doubt in my mind, that this story will haunt me in the best way possible for a very, very long time. In a world where magic is fueled by pleasure and pain, we follow our main character Saffron who is tasked by her captain to go undercover and flip the world of the ruthless order of the Bloodmoons upside down. This premise alone made me froth at the mouth to get to the bottom of this story and MY GOD, was I unprepared for what's to come. Not only was the magic system innovative and fresh, it also felt nostalgic at the same time. We're talking wands in all different manners, mages wearing fancy cloaks, charms and curses at every corner. This world was filled to the brim with all sorts of magic, without it ever being confusing or overwhelming. I was fully submerged in it the moment I laid eyes on the first few pages of this book. Speaking of the world, how in the seven hells did Laura manage to build such a complex world that is filled with history and lore and ancient prophecies without it being boring or repetitive for even a second?? It was the perfect backdrop for Saffron's story and so engaging, I felt like an old, wrinkly historian who is crouched over her million dusty history books that are scattered all around her trying to absorb as much of it in my little brain as possible and loved every minute of it. But now, the part of this book that touched me so deeply I had to reconnect with nature, because I felt myself getting WAY too emotional over fictional characters that do not exist: The relationship between Saffron and Levan. I am guilty of having a soft spot for the tortured, misunderstood characters that hide behind a careful constructed facade of being seemingly unaffected by everything and it was almost like the author knew that about me and gave me exactly that. It was perfect. It was a clashing of morals, of good vs bad, of breaking and bending your own moral code in pursuit of "the greater good" and of watching two people develop feelings for each other against their better judgement whilst opening up about their tortured past and the shared grief that haunts them. The character development of both of them was so unique and exciting, paired with the fast-paced action and twists at every corner, I had the time of my life. No notes, Miss Steven. I truly believe that with this book, you created something as close to magic as you can get in our boring non-magical world and I thank you for sharing it with us.
This is how villains are made.
Oh my god, I can’t believe how good this book was. Honestly if I could I’d rate it 6 stars. And I can’t believe how much it destroyed me. Saff is an amazing character, strong, ambitious and the author makes it so we can absolutely feel with her. The decision she makes, how everything is going down and how she tries to make it work nevertheless- I loved her so much as fmc. The magic system was something I hadn’t read in many years and it gave me nice flashbacks to a series I read as a teenager. But it has still new facets and the whole magic system is amazingly explained. I loved it. And the story itself? I couldn’t put the book down and if I had to I just wanted to continue. Undercover agent magic style and huh, additionally a lot of tension 🔥 But what made my jaw DROP was the end. I mean there were turns of events throughout the whole book I didn’t see coming. But the end? It ate me up and spit me out again. Every time there was hope- next page there wasn’t anymore. And then there was again some turn of events you didn’t see coming and that changed everything. Just for my heart to break totally. I need the next book like asap. Thanks to Netgalley for the eARC!
I haven’t had a book where I had a hard time getting into it in such a long time. For some reason, I was excited to read the book but as I started it, the story couldn’t catch me as much as I wanted. Even though the magic system is reminiscent of Harry Potter, it’s still unique (I guess everything with spells and wands will always remind me of HP). As the focus was much more on the fantasy part and plot (which I actually came to really like), the romance wasn’t as strong as the characters felt it themselves. But the last few pages really make me want to read the next book asap!
I have had a good time reading 'Silvercloak'. I've read that it has been compared to Harry Potter - which I don't really understand. But that might be just so me. The story is okayish, foreseeable and nothing new. Go for it to read a bit, it is a light read with a bit of spice and nice action elements. Nicely written, but nothing soooo special.
