Wow, what did I just read? I really didn't expect anything like that when I started this book. I loved how the story about June unfolded and everything unravelled. Can't even say too much because I think it's best to go in with not knowing much about the plot. I just say the title of the book is a bullseye and perfectly fits the untangling of the mystery.

Ich habe vorher gar nichts über den Inhalt des Buches gelesen und das war genau richtig. In die Geschichte geht man am besten komplett unvorbereitet. So hat sie mich wirklich richtig mitgenommen. Junes Geschichte ist unglaublich, magisch und ziemlich verworren. Aber einfach außergewöhnlich. Die Sprache trifft genau den richtigen Ton und lässt einen komplett in die Welt eintauchen. Ich mochte, dass es eine komplexere Handlung wurde und etwas anspruchsvoller, aber trotzdem sehr gefühlvoll. 5 Sterne hätte das Buch für noch ein bisschen mehr Gefühl und Tiefe am Ende bekommen, da hat mir noch bisschen was gefehlt. Aber das war trotzdem ein richtig schön überraschender Geheimtipp.

warme sommergefühle die so viel mehr in mir ausgelöst haben!!
das dorf hält zusammen auch wenn ein einzelner darunter leiden muss. nach diesem motto lebt die familie in die unsere hauptfigur durch löcher in der zeit geworfen wird. nur hört die mystery der zeit hier nicht auf. auf eine magische art und weise wird das konzept der zeit, der existenz und des belonging einmal komplett über den haufen geworfen und das, mithilfe unserer unfreiwillig teilhabenden hauptfigur. im zentrum sind die frauen der familie, mal wieder als opfer aber auch als traitor und eigentlich weiß niemand, was tatsächlich richtig ist. und ob es überhaupt eine richtige sache gibt wenn sich blickwinkel und welten vermischen.
Beautiful and compelling time travel fantasy romance with sci-fi and mystery elements. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and am in awe of the amazing writing, blend of magic realism with women’s fiction and romance. I loved the plot and mystery and all the different women and their story. But I have to admit I was at times confused with the timelines and the whole concept of the time travel thread. And I wish the love interest was introduced a bit earlier.

How could I forget something if I hadn’t lived it yet.”
I think a drawing of the time line and the family tree would have been great in here, I was so confused in some chapters lol It took me way too long to read the first 15-20% of this book. However, as soon as this mysterious door appears and June walks through it, I flew through the pages. What happens then was right up my alley, I love some good magical realism/sci fi mixed into dual timelines, and this also had a little bit of a family/murder mystery tied into it.
become lost in time with this book
i LOVED the writing and the prose! and the whole farrow storyline sucked me in completely. although i did have a little bit of trouble getting into the story (but i think it was more bc of a little reading slump going on) im left with a few questions which i would have loved to get answers to....and i feel like the ending would have needed more chapters to be set up first of all—and additionally it needed a few more chapters to truly hit deep.... i feel like the ending was rushed and fell short. but all in all a really twisted, emotional, well thought through book.

Die Storyline ist spannend, hat auch ein paar Twists und war mal was anderes. Auch die Atmosphäre und die Mystery- Elemente haben die Geschichte besonders gemacht. Die einzelnen Details fügen sich nach und nach perfekt zusammen und die Mischung aus mystery, suspense und magical realism wurde gut umgesetzt. Auch wenn der Romance Part eher im Hintergrund stand und man gar nicht so viel über die Charaktere erfahren hat, konnte ich mitfühlen und ihre Verbindung spüren. Vor allem das Ende konnte mich auch emotional abholen. Insgesamt eine packende, magische Geschichte mit einer besonderen Atmosphäre!

Es war eine wirklich interessante Geschichte aber es konnte mich nicht zu 100% überzeugen. Ich konnte die Charaktere nicht so ganz fühlen, da hat etwas gefehlt. Ich hätte mir noch mehr Szenen mit bestimmten Charakteren gewünscht, da ich so leider keine Bindung zu ihnen aufgebaut habe. Es war am Ende zu schnell und ich hätte mir noch mehr gewünscht. Das Grundkonzept hat mir aber sehr gut gefallen, da ich sowas in die Richtung noch nicht gelesen habe. Der Schreibstil der Autorin war wirklich schön und kann mir definitiv vorstellen noch mehr von ihr zu lesen.
Jetzt schon ein Jahreshighlight!
Dieses Buch ist eines der besten Bücher, das ich jemals gelesen habe. Ich weiß, das hört man oft, aber hier meine ich es wirklich ernst! Ich war von der ersten Sekunde an gefesselt und das hat sich auch im Laufe des Buches nicht geändert. Der Schreibstil von Adrienne Young ist sehr malerisch und bezaubernd. Die Geschichte war auch sehr einzigartig. Zumindest ich habe bis jetzt noch nichts ähnliches gelesen. Man hat beim Lesen ein sehr unbehagliches Gefühl, das eigentlich erst nach der Auflösung so richtig verschwindet. Aber genau das hat die Geschichte so spannend gemacht. Das Ende war sehr schön gestaltet. Ich war selten so zufrieden mit einem Ende, wie hier. Zuerst dachte ich, dass ich den Plot Twist erraten habe, aber dann hat sich herausgestellt, dass das noch gar nicht der Plot Twist war. Der hat mich dann nämlich komplett umgehauen! Eine sehr schöne Geschichte über Familie, Freundschaft und Liebe, die einen zugleich an der Realität zweifeln lässt. Alles in allem ein sehr schönes und gelungenes Buch, das ich jedem weiter empfehlen würde.
Twisting my brain.
I overall enjoyed the story and I liked that there a lots of things to rack one’s brains about, but for me the pacing was a little off. The first 1/3 of the book felt fast paced and exiting than the pacing in the middle was a lot slower but steady and the end was again more fast paced. And I feel that there were still a lot of unanswered questions, but I did enjoy the ending :-)
I'm a bit confused, but i still liked the story.
This was a perfect mix of fantasy and romance for me. But I am just confused about the fraying of timelines, then the fixing of it. I don't think I got how June was able to fix it. And for some reason the June + Mason thing felt like another possible story to me, especially with the memories.

The way Adrienne Young builds the story and the emotional development she lets our protagonist June go through was truly moving and her writing simply added to that🩵 Some (though definitely not all!!) of the plot twists near the end didn't come as unexpectedly as I would've liked, hence my 4 star rating, but this is me being very nit-picky, because looking at the overall picture, the story really did convince me. The Unmaking of June Farrow is a book I'm very much glad I picked up and a story that stayed with me long after I finished it.🌸

Als ihre Großmutter, die sie aufgezogen hat, stirbt, beginnt es auch bei ihr: June sieht plötzlich eine Tür im Nichts und hört die Stimme eines Mannes im Wind. Als sie einen mysteriösen Brief erhält, beschließt sie jedoch, dem Familienfluch auf den Grund zu gehen und herauszufinden, was hinter der Tür steckt. Etwas, das Adrienne Young zweifellos kann, ist, atmosphärisch zu schreiben. Wie bereits in dem letzten Buch, das ich von ihr gelesen habe, konnte ich auch diesmal die Umgebung regelrecht vor mir sehen, die Klänge hören, die Gerüche wahrnehmen … Jasper als Stadt fühlte sich so echt an und das bezog sich auch auf die Menschen darin. Alle Charaktere hätten sofort aus dem Buch steigen können, so real wirkten sie beim Lesen. Ich muss sagen, dass dies für mich ein großer Punkt ist, warum ich beide Bücher der Autorin bisher so gerne mochte und auch ihr nächstes bereits bestellt habe! Was ebenfalls sehr gut gelungen ist, sind die Rätsel in diesem Buch. Diese werden subtil eingefügt und zu Beginn ist es beinahe unmöglich zu verstehen, wie alles zusammenhängt. Da ist das Foto eines Priesters, der vor Jahrzehnten umgebracht wurde und dessen ungelöster Tod noch immer Wellen in der Kleinstadt schlägt – und er steht neben Junes Mutter. Dann ist da der Familienfluch, der irgendwie immer weniger wie ein Fluch erscheint. Alle diese Aspekte werden so gut aufgebracht und am Ende zusammengefügt. Die Plottwists waren großartig! Was mich allerdings gestört hat war, dass das Buch Zeitreise-Aspekte hatte. Ab einem gewissen Punkt ging es dadurch in eine Richtung, die ich nicht erwartet hatte und die mich nicht übermäßig begeistern konnte. Als ich mich darauf eingelassen habe, hatte ich trotzdem immer noch eine gute Zeit, allerdings gab es gegen Ende einige Erklärungen für Plottwists, die nur bedingt Sinn ergaben. Es ist natürlich aber auch möglich, dass ich hier etwas nicht richtig verstanden habe. Auch die Liebesgeschichte konnte mich nur bedingt überzeugen. Zu Beginn war diese sehr interessant, danach ging mir allerdings alles etwas zu schnell. Hier hätte ich mir doch mehr gewünscht. Fazit: Insgesamt konnte mich „The Unmaking of June Farrow“ überzeugen, was in erster Linie an dem atmosphärischen Schreibstil und einigen spannenden Rätseln lag. Etwas Punktabzug gab es für eine leicht unlogische Auflösung und eine schwache Liebesgeschichte – aber selbst damit ist dies immer noch ein Buch, welches ich gerne weiterempfehle!

Da ist das Foto eines Priesters, der vor Jahrzehnten umgebracht wurde und dessen ungelöster Tod noch immer Wellen in der Kleinstadt schlägt – und er steht neben Junes Mutter. Dann ist da der Familienfluch, der irgendwie immer weniger wie ein Fluch erscheint. Alle diese Aspekte werden so gut aufgebracht und am Ende zusammengefügt. Die Plottwists waren großartig! Was mich allerdings gestört hat war, dass das Buch Zeitreise-Aspekte hatte. Ab einem gewissen Punkt ging es dadurch in eine Richtung, die ich nicht erwartet hatte und die mich nicht übermäßig begeistern konnte. Als ich mich darauf eingelassen habe, hatte ich trotzdem immer noch eine gute Zeit, allerdings gab es gegen Ende einige Erklärungen für Plottwists, die nur bedingt Sinn ergaben. Es ist natürlich aber auch möglich, dass ich hier etwas nicht richtig verstanden habe. Auch die Liebesgeschichte konnte mich nur bedingt überzeugen. Zu Beginn war diese sehr interessant, danach ging mir allerdings alles etwas zu schnell. Hier hätte ich mir doch mehr gewünscht. Fazit: Insgesamt konnte mich „The Unmaking of June Farrow“ überzeugen, was in erster Linie an dem atmosphärischen Schreibstil und einigen spannenden Rätseln lag. Etwas Punktabzug gab es für eine leicht unlogische Auflösung und eine schwache Liebesgeschichte – aber selbst damit ist dies immer noch ein Buch, welches ich gerne weiterempfehle!
