Wundervolles Märchen-Standalone 🦢✨
Ich hatte Lust auf einen kurzen, schnellen und einfachen Read und habe blind zu diesem Young Adult Fantasy gegriffen ohne irgendwas darüber zu wissen. Der Brief der Autorin las sich super einfach und entspannt und ich freute mich auf das Buch. Es stellte sich so ziemlich als das anspruchsvollste Englisch heraus, das ich bisher lesen durfte :D und ich lese ja noch nicht super lange auf Englisch. Der Grund ist - es ist wie ein Märchen geschrieben. Es enthielt viele für mich anspruchsvolle „geschwollene“ Wörter und Ausdrücke. Und war überhaupt nicht das was ich erwartete. (Mag ich übrigens normalerweise Märchen-Retellings? Nope) Aber auch wenn ich des öfteren Wörter nachschlagen musste, las es sich so so wundervoll und melodisch 😍 Ich fühlte mich, als ob ich mitten in diesem Märchen wäre. Die Welt war voller Zauber und das Worldbuilding richtig bildhaft. Es fühlte sich total anders an als alle meine bisherigen Fantasybücher 🥰 Zu dem Plot selbst möchte ich nichts verraten. Ich fand es richtig toll, total blind in der Welt gelandet worden zu sein. Die Geschichte fühlte sich stellenweise sehr cozy und herzerwärmend an. Teilweise war sie makaber - wie die Märchen oft sind. Die Hauptprotagonistin habe ich absolut geliebt. 🥹 Mein Spirit Animal war aber ganz klar Ursula 🤣 Ich kann mir vorstellen, dass für manche Leser die Geschichte nicht schnell genug vorangehen könnte oder nicht genug Spannung / Yearning da sein könnte. Ich kann nur empfehlen, sich zurückzulehnen und von der Geschichte verzaubern zu lassen 🥹🥹🥰 Auch wenn ich am Anfang etwas schnelles haben wollte, wollte ich am Ende kaum, dass es endet. ❤️🦢
Eine märchenhafte Geschichte über Liebe und Vertrauen 💕
Langsam und fantastisch erzählt, farbenfroh und vielfältig geht es um Demelza, die ihr Leben lang schon anders war als ihre Schwestern, und Arris, der sein vermeintlich kurzes Leben anhand kleiner Momente zu schätzen und zelebrieren wusste. Während Arris an die große, wahre Liebe glaubt (oder vielmehr darauf hofft) sieht Demelza darin ein Gefängnis. Die Story nimmt Fahrt auf, als die beiden zu unlikely allies werden 🤭 Ein angenehmer slow paced read in einer fantasievollen und bunten Welt, überraschender Magie und Wesen mit dem Gefühl mitten in ein Märchen gestolpert zu sein. Mir haben auch die vielen Botschaften zwischen den Zeilen sehr gut gefallen, gerade auch wie Arris sein vermeintlich kurzes Leben mit Dingen gestaltet die sein Herz erfreuen ❤️ ein sehr schönes Standalone, eine niedliche Romance, was fürs Herz und die Fantasie!
Märchenhafte Geschichte mit interessanten Ideen
The Swans Daughter ist ein YA Fantasy Standalone und liest sich durchweg wie ein Märchen! Es ist whimsical, irgendwie cozy aber gleichzeitig hat es auch düstere Szenen und natürlich haben wir eine Moral in der Geschichte. Die Welt ist ganz zauberhaft mit schönen Ideen wie z.B. dass man nach dem Tod ein zweites Leben als Baum oder etwas anderes in der Natur haben kann, das Schloss in dem die Geschichte spielt hat ein Eigenleben etc. Das hat mir alles gut gefallen! 😍 Das Englisch fand ich für YA etwas anspruchsvoller. Ich bin tatsächlich erstmal nicht gut in das Buch reingekommen und habe länger gebraucht als sonst, weil der Schreibstil so… ich weiß nicht - geschwollen? war 🥲 Irgendwann ging es, aber der Schreibstil ist definitiv nicht mein Favorit. Das Worldbuilding war sehr interessant, aber auch ausbaufähig. Mich hätte definitiv noch mehr von der Lore der Schwäne oder der Hexe interessiert. Das Buch hat natürlich einen romance plot, es gibt aber nicht viel tension und auch keinen spice. Es hat eine eher zarte Slow burn romance 🥰 für die Liebesgeschichte würde ich es aber auf keinen Fall lesen, die ist wirklich eher „okay“. Insgesamt würde ich es allen empfehlen die Märchenartige Fantasy mögen! 🦢
Detaillierte märchenhafte Story mit toller Moral.
Am Anfang war ich noch sehr verwirrt, weil wir erstmal was zu der Mutter und dem Vater von Demelza erfahren und wie die beiden zueinander gefunden haben. Dann wird aber auch schon bald Demelza - unsere Protagonistin - geboren und die Story nimmt ihren Lauf. Es gibt sehr, sehr viele Charaktere und Namen und nur ein Bruchteil davon ist tatsächlich relevant für die Story. Es ist dadurch aber etwas schwer den Überblick zu behalten und annotieren wäre durchaus sinnvoll gewesen. Roshani Chokshi hat einen sehr detailverliebten Schreibstil und generell wirkt die Welt sehr magisch, märchenhaft und verträumt. (Im Ernst, selbst die Möbel und Häuser sind irgendwie lebendig und haben einen eigenen Willen.) Die Love-Story zwischen Arris und Demelza ist total schön zu lesen, weil sie sich erst langsam entwickelt und beide mit anderen Absichten einen Pakt schließen. Arris sucht eigentlich eine Königin / Frau die ihn nicht umbringt und macht sich selber zum Bachelor, sodass verschiedene Kandidatinnen sich um ihn buhlen und in Challenges gegeneinander antreten können. Demelza hingegen flieht vor ihrem Vater und sucht Schutz in Arris Palast unter der Voraussetzung, dass sie ihm bei der Auswahl der Kandidatinnen hilft. Beide sind etwas schräge Persönlichkeiten, aber ich habe den damit verbundenen Humor sehr geliebt. 🤭💚 Was auch richtig schön ist, ist das kein Charakter richtig bösartig ist. Jeder hat seine guten und schlechten Seiten und es gibt unterschiedliche Beweggründe bei den Kandidatinnen warum sie gerne Arris heiraten möchten. Beim Ende hatte ich dann richtig Gänsehaut auf den letzten Seiten und fand es einfach richtig schön und fair. Fazit: Ein Buch in das man sich reinlesen muss, dann aber eine wirklich schöne Story hat die man noch eine Weile mit sich herumträgt. 💚
The way Roshani Chokshi manages to mesmerize me from page 1 is unbelievable. This book has everything and more. There's the prose that glues me to every word, and every sentence opens up a whole new world of imagination. There's the worldbuilding that is both incredibly lush and complex, while all the way presented to us as if it was a child's play to do so. There's the fairytale of it all that draws from many myths and mythologies and still manages to create a conclusive and rich new world. And if you think that in such an intricate book you won't find interesting and relatable characters, you're dead wrong. Let me start by praising the side characters that are all fleshed out and intriguing. I'd want a whole book for each and every one of them. Best of all in my opinion is the badass queer MMC's sister that could just as well be an MC. I love her and the second romance that develops. And then there's Demelza the titular heroine, the odd swan out that has to find her very own way to live, love and trust. And Arris the socially clumsy, utterly adorable prince who is so full of thirst for life. And so many more, I can't wait for you to meet all of them. I'd even take a whole chapter about the sentient guardian plant. My words fail to describe this book. I have very mixed feelings about this book. I liked the story, I liked the writing style. But I absolutely didn’t like the characters, especially the male love interest. The book gave me fairytale vibes throughout the whole time and I loved it. The setting was cute and I loved the idea of the whole storyline but I would have liked more Worldbuilding and more intel about the veritas swans as well as the whole magic system. But okay, given it’s YA, im absolutely fine with it and that’s not a criticism that influenced my rating of this book. What absolutely did was the love interest and his, sorry for the harsh wording, stupidity. I had constantly facepalm moments and that diminished my enjoyment a lot. On the same the love story felt rushed and I didn’t feel a single spark between the characters. On the other hand there would have been much more potential with his sister in my opinion 🤣 So if you’re looking for an easy read, that’s quick, that’s a standalone- here you go. But if you’re older then 15 you might feel a bit disappointed as well. For this story it would have been better to write it at least as a duology to give the story more room to develop.
