About the book

A bestselling summer read as heartbreaking as The Lovely Bones and as gripping as Jenny Downham's Before I Die.

They say 'live every day as if it's your last' - but you never actually think it's going to be. At least I didn't.
The thing is, you don't get to know when it happens. You don't remember to tell your family that you love them or - in my case - remember to say goodbye to them at all.

But what if, like me, you could live your last day over and over again? Could you make it perfect? If your whole life flashed before your eyes, would you have no regrets? Or are there some things you'd want to change...?

"Before I fall" focuses on Sam, a teenage girl who is part of the most popular girl clique of her high school. She loves her friends and her popularity, likes that she has a popular boyfriend, but disdains most of the rest of her grade or even her whole school. She's one of the mean girls. Then, on the way home from a party her friend's car swerves off the road and Sam dies in the crash. Only, she wakes up the next day and relives it. Desperate to not die again, she tries to change things up, again and again. Along the way she learns things about herself, her friends and even the people she only tolerated or disliked up until this point. She finds out about the bad parts of her friends and the things she has in common with people outside her circle. I really enjoyed following Sam's transformation from a mean girl who goes along with a lot of things just to keep her popularity and a girl who stands up for what she wants and is nice to other people just for the sake of it. It's also a good look at bullying and how it often starts randomly, with small things, and continues to get perpetuated because everyone is afraid to find themselves at the bottom of the social hierarchy.
