The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas

Wow, this book really hit me hard. Bruno is just such a sweet, naive, and innocent nine-year-old boy, it honestly breaks your heart. He doesn't understand the awful world around him at all. For him, Shmuel, the boy on the other side of the fence, is just a friend he wants to play with. This deep friendship between these two boys from completely different worlds is super beautiful but totally heartbreaking at the same time. Seeing everything through Bruno’s eyes makes the story hit way harder. more quotes: “The thing about exploring is that you have to know whether the thing you’ve found is worth fining. Some things are just sitting there, minding their own business.“ “A home is not a building or a street or a city or something so artificial as bricks and mortar. A home is where one‘s family is, isn’t that right?“

Es ist jetzt schon ein paar Tage her, dass ich das Buch beendet habe, aber ich finde immer noch keine Worte. Der achtjährige Junge Bruno zieht als Sohn eines Kommandanten nach Auschwitz und freundet sich dort heimlich am Zaun mit einem jüdischen Jungen an. Der Hauptcharakter Bruno wirkte auf mich sehr authentisch. Besonders berührend fand ich, dass alles aus der realistischen Sicht und im kindlichen Schreibstil erzählt wurde. Dadurch wurde die Handlung noch berührender . Die Stimmung bleibt durchgehend eher melancholisch und nüchtern. Vom Ende brauche ich gar nicht erst zu sprechen, es hat mich zerstört. Ich bin der Meinung, dass das Thema Nationalsozialismus sehr gut vermittelt wurde, und fand die Perspektive unglaublich interessant. Insgesamt ein sehr gutes Buch für alle, die sich für das Thema Nationalsozialismus interessieren, und meiner Meinung nach auch als Schullektüre geeignet.
