Description

'Jane Eyre meets American Psycho. Gloriously outrageous, sensationally unhinged' SUNDAY TIMES'Simmering with rage, propulsive and laugh-out-loud funny' CATRIONA WARD'Weird and wonderful' LUCY MANGAN, GUARDIANWinifred Notty arrives at Ensor House prepared to play the perfect Victorian governess. She'll dutifully tutor her charges, Drusilla and Andrew, tell them bedtime stories, and only joke about eating children. But the longer Winifred spends within the estate's dreary confines and the more she learns of the perversions and pathetic preoccupations of the Pounds family, the more trouble she has sticking to her plan.Whether creeping across the moonlit lawns in her undergarments or gently tormenting the house staff, Winifred struggles at every turn to stifle the horrid compulsions of her past until her chillingly dark imagination breaches the feeble boundary of reality on Christmas morning. Wielding her signature sardonic wit and a penchant for the gorgeously macabre, Virginia Feito returns with a vengeance in Victorian Psycho.NOW BEING ADAPTED FOR A MAJOR FILM BY A24What readers are saying...'Psychotic, strange, utterly hilarious, strangely relatable''Dark, gruesome, hilarious, wild, weird''One hell of a ride. ‘I fail to understand why men think violence will intimidate women. Women, who bleed all over themselves every month. Women who burst open in childbirth.’ Short and very fun read. From feminism to eat the rich, this was delightful in the best ways. Though, once again, the book probably could do with a few CWs. My E-Book version did not include them. So be wary if any of those topics are not for you: body horror, child abuse, child/baby death, animal torture, animal death, violence, gory scenes

Hab mich zu Tode gelangweilt.

If unhinged was a person....

The story follows a young gouverness taking care of two children during christmas time and things escalate quickly from there... imagine not liking children and leting your intrusive thoughts win - it's a very unhinged, weird and gory story. Be warned that pretty much all of the characters are very unlikeable, there is no real character development - just a room full of psychos 🙃

A delirious Christmas Slaughter

After much waiting and reading through promising books, I found a Story with an unreliable Narrator, mentally gone Main Character AND fitting Ending! (Dark humor included ofc) As well as a Plot twist I honestly didn't see coming, because the hints were either subtle enough or could be interpreted in different ways. Additionally I'm still wondering if Drusilla really did help Winifred during the slaughter or perhaps Winifred imagined it again - which is exactly what I love about unreliable Narrators! Sadly I still couldn't give full 5★ because of a few non logical parts during the story, a few misplaced attempts of humor and the very slim possibility of one woman (or two?) butchering about 20 people without anyone being able to disarm her/them.

Slasher meets Female Rage

It was honestly good for what it was but the whole time I was thinking "This would’ve hit way better if it was a movie." And that never happens but yeah…The writing was good too!

Didn’t expect them to be connected that way Love a blood bath

This book is bloody, unhinged, and honestly kinda iconic.

Virginia Feito really said “women deal with blood and guts monthly, you think this is gonna scare us?” and then gave us a dark, twisted little historical horror ride that I simply inhaled. Super graphic in ways I wasn’t ready for — but also kinda (so) into. The ending? Completely deranged. Loved it.
