Description

'Whimsical but never frivolous, sweet but not sugary, deeply kind rather than merely nice. I loved it' Alix E. Harrow

It's difficult to find a husband in Regency England when you're a young lady with only half a soul.

Ever since she was cursed by a faerie, Theodora Ettings has had no sense of fear or embarrassment - a condition which makes her prone to accidental scandal. Dora hopes to be a quiet, sensible wallflower during the London Season - but when the strange, handsome and utterly uncouth Lord Sorcier discovers her condition, she is instead drawn into dangerous and peculiar faerie affairs.

If Dora's reputation can survive both her curse and her sudden connection with the least-liked man in all of high society, then she may yet reclaim her normal place in the world. . . but the longer Dora spends with Elias Wilder, the more she begins to suspect that one may indeed fall in love, even with only half a soul.

Bridgerton meets Howl's Moving Castle in this enchanting historical fantasy, where the only thing more meddlesome than faeries is a marriage-minded mother.

Pick up HALF A SOUL, and be stolen away into Olivia Atwater's charming, magical version of Regency England!

'A charming and original take on both the fae and the Regency fantasy genre, with plenty of humour and heart. I couldn't put it down.' Heather Fawcett, author of Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries

This was exactly the right mix of historical whimsical fantasy 😍 Loved this so much! Though the ending seemed a little rushed ^^

I really liked it. It was dark, exciting, but also very beautiful. It was also emotional! I definitely recommend it.

3.5

Quick, sweet, magical Regency Romance with low stakes, cozy vibes and cute moments. Didn’t connect with the romance but loved our main characters. Dora is very relatable and Elias such a grump.

„I love your wit and cleverness. I love that you are kind but almost never nice. I love your eyes and your hair and your freckles… And I love to dance with you. That is the worst of it by far.“ „I have known many human beings with a full soul to their name who do not have half so much compassion or practicality as you.“ „It may be true that you have only half a soul, Dora. […] But that does not make you half a person.“

Setting: 4.5/5 - I especially adored the fairie realm, though it could’ve been much more vividly described Plot: 2/5 - rather basic and somewhat uninspired; however, it did get really quite interesting in fairie with its’ deeply unsettling inhabitants. This part of the story felt too rushed for me which is why I cannot give more than a 2 for the plot. Characters: 3/5 - there is so much potential here Cringe-level: too high for my personal taste unfortunately (but I may not be the target audience)
