I binged this in under 24 hours. I was hooked immediately and fell as always in love with Backman's writing style. I don't know how to describe why I loved this book so much, it's really just a feeling, a connection to the story and the characters

da ich „a man called ove“ desselben Autors so gar nicht mochte, war ich erst etwas skeptisch. Das Buch ist aber absolut umwerfend geschrieben. Spannend, tragisch und gleichzeitig mit jeder Menge Wortwitz. Lange hat mich kein Buch mehr so gefesselt

Zu Beginn gefiel mir das Buch ziemlich gut und dann wurde es zur Mitte hin doch sehr anstrengend zu lesen und mir gingen zeitweilig einige Charaktere doch ordentlich auf den Keks. Um ehrlich zu sein, hatte ich mir das Buch auch ganz anders vorgestellt, als es wirklich war. Ich denke auf Deutsch wäre es leichter zu lesen gewesen.

Unexpected! A very funny book

This is a wonderful book that feels like many books in one. It is partly a crime story, partly a comedy, and also a thoughtful exploration of meaningful themes such as anxiety, stress, relationships and even suicide. What makes it particularly special is the way these serious topics are handled: the author manages to approach them in a light, humorous and very human way without diminishing their importance. The book is genuinely funny, the characters are memorable and very well developed, and the writing flows beautifully. It is both entertaining and insightful at the same time. I would definitely recommend it. I laughed out loud!

Absolute Überraschung! Ich hatte ehrlich gesagt keine all zu großen Erwartungen an das Buch, aber es war einfach fantastisch. So eine humorvolle Geschichte, die es gleichzeitig aber schafft, wichtige, tiefere Themen aufzugreifen, Charaktere erschafft die man, trotz ihrer Fehler, so ins Herz schließt - einfach nur unglaublich. Auf jeden Fall ein Buch, dass ich weiterempfehlen, und erneut lesen werde.

Insgesamt ein geniales Buch mit besonderem Schreibstil. Es ist irgendwie wie ein Puzzle, was man lösen möchte und was sich nach und nach zusammen fügt. Kleiner Bonus: Diskussionsfragen für einen Buchclub oder ähnliches sind am Ende enthalten.

Die Mitte war sehr zäh, aber das Ende hat für mich eine Menge wieder rausgerissen.

Mein erstes Backman Buch und ich find den Schreibstil schon sehr genial. Trocken lustig, sich über sich selbst lustig machen und nah am Leben jedes einzelnen sein. Das Buch hat richtig gut begonnen, es hätte nur 100 Seiten kürzer sein können! Ich fand alles dazwischen und die Auflösung sehr langatmig!! 😮‍💨☺️ Beartown werde ich auf alle Fälle als nächstes von dem Autor lesen 📖

Viele Meinungen

Meine Meinung hat sich regelmäßig geändert, während ich dieses Buch gelesen habe. Ich bin mit der Erwartung eines lustigen, angenehmen Buches gestartet, doch schnell wurde mir klar, dass es viele deprimierende Seiten darin gibt. Ab und zu geht es um traurige Geschehnisse oder Gedanken und auch um Suizid, dafür sollte es eventuell eine kurze Warnung geben. Dennoch gab es auch viele lustige und auch teils verwirrende Aspekte. Und auch mal ein wenig Fremdscham. Insgesamt war es eine interessante Geschichte, bei der man miträtseln konnte, was wohl tatsächlich geschehen ist und dennoch immer wieder überrascht wird und nicht auf Anhieb auf die Lösung kommt. Mir hat das Buch, insbesondere zum Ende hin recht gut gefallen, aber meiner Meinung nach wurde es falsch angepriesen, denn vor allem zu Beginn und bis zu späten Mitte empfand ich es eher weniger als "a brilliant and comforting read" ~ Matt Haig

Wunderbar schräg und berührend

Ich habe das Hörbuch angefangen nachdem ich Fredrik Backmans Rede auf einer Simon&Schuster Veranstaltung gehört habe und was soll ich sagen: schon in den ersten Kapiteln musste ich laut auflachen. Die Figuren werden Stück für Stück entfaltet. Am Anfang wirken sie schrullig und karikaturenhaft, aber je mehr man über sie erfährt desto tragischer und nahbarer werden sie. Hinter fast allen steht viel Schmerz, Verlust und Unsicherheit. Die Handlung entfaltet sich ebenfalls Stück für Stück bis man sehr spät versteht, was wirklich passiert ist. Ein Teil der Handlung ist vorhersehbar, ein anderer Teil so gar nicht. Mal lustig, mal sehr melancholisch. Und irgendwie ergibt das trotzdem ein stimmiges Ganzes. Dazu trägt die Sprecherin auch bei. Die Geschichte fließt einfach schön vor sich hin. Und ganz nebenbei hat das Buch bei mir ausgelöst, dass ich wieder angefangen habe Schwedisch zu lernen (vor Jahren angefangen und abgebrochen). Ich habe mir das Taschenbuch auf Schwedisch gekauft und werde es in einer Weile noch mal im Original lesen.

Amazing.

This might have been my favorite read this year. One of my Top 5 maybe overall. At no point in this book did I follow where this was going, and yet there were so many relatable connotations where I laughed out loud. Between the jokes and social criticism, there's so much wisdom and love for life and humanity. It took me a while to finish, but it was never because of the book. I was always excited when I found the time to continue reading, even if I hadn't learned anything about the plot afterwards cause it's just so chaotic. 10/10 can recommend to anyone (and have been doing so!)

I love the way he described the characters. They are so odd and quirky (sometimes unlikeable but still lovely in a way) which makes it such a fun dynamic between all of them. However the writing is not for everyone because it’s really cheesy at some points, most of the time I enjoyed it but I see how some people wouldn’t like it at all

Re-read: Gefiel mir noch immer sehr gut, ich hatte sogar gewisse Dinge schon wieder vergessen. Insgesamt kann ich sagen, dass ich Anxious People echt mochte allerdings nicht ganz so sehr wie andere Bücher des Autors. Was ich an Fredrik Backmans Bücher am meisten mag sind die Figuren. Auch hier gibt es wieder eine ganze Reihe von interessanten Charakteren. Zwar wirkten diese teilweise etwas überzeichnet, doch in anderen Momenten wirkten sie unglaublich authentisch und echt und so konnte ich gar nicht anders als mit ihnen mitzufühlen. Die Handlung selbst war ziemlich unterhaltsam, dass Buch war insgesamt humorvoller als die anderen Bücher die ich bisher vom Autor gelesen habe, doch es gab auch jede Menge emotionale und berührende Momente und wie bei Fredrik Backman gewohnt habe ich auch die eine oder andere Träne vergossen.

I just love it. Frederik Backman can definitely write and I cannot wait to read any other book from him. The story made me feel all the emotions that I could possibly feel while reading a book. I laughed, I cried, and I was overwhelmed by how many plot twists there could possibly be in a book where the story is told the wrong way around. The chapters are short, the language is great and it's a book I'd definitely recommend to everyone needing a whole-hearted light read to escape a reading slump.

Heartwarming

Anxious people is heartwarming and funny, with interesting characters and great plottwists. It's not my book of the year, but it is a nice comfort read.

"Wenn ich wüsste, dass die Welt morgen endet, würde ich heute noch einen Baum pflanzen." - Martin Luther King Was ein wunderschönes Buch!!!! ♥️ Zu Anfang war ich ein wenig verwirrt gewesen und fragte mich, worum es eig gehen soll.. doch dann machte es *klick* und alles war so deutlich. Das Buch ist so wunderschön geschrieben! 😍 Man findet sich und seine eigenen Gefühle sehr oft wieder. "Anxious People" regt sehr zum Nachdenken an, aber lässt einen hier und da auch schmunzeln. Der Autor berührt mit so vielen Themen, wie Liebe, Tod, Beziehungen, Selbstmord, Angstzustände, Depression, Elternschaft,..., der einer beeindruckenden Bandbreite an Charakteren mit einzigartigen Persönlichkeiten und Hintergrundgeschichten folgt. Die Charaktere sind Menschen wie du und ich, ängstliche Menschen, die durch diese Welt wandern, voller Unvollkommenheiten und Fehler. Ihr könnt euch nicht vorstellen, wie der ein oder andere Charakter mich verrückt gemacht hat 😄. Zara, zb.. oder Julia. Ich mochte die am Anfang überhaupt nicht. Selbst die Polizisten fand ich anfangs inkompetent 🙈. Aber... Dieses Buch bringt einen dazu, anfangs jeden zu verurteilen, aber am Ende zeigt es, dass jeder seine eigene Geschichte hat und es uns nicht gestattet ist, über einander zu urteilen. ♥️ Jeder hat sein Päckchen zu tragen und geht damit anders um. Wir dürfen uns nicht gegenseitig runter bringen, wir sollen füreinander da sein! Dieses Buch bedeutet mir viel und hat mir mehr als sehr gut gefallen ♥️. Bitte mehr davon!!

In my search for a feel-good book to help me cope with a family tragedy, I turned to Reddit for recommendations, and "Anxious People" by Fredrik Backman was a gem that exceeded my expectations. Backman's storytelling prowess turned this novel into a therapeutic and enjoyable reading experience during a challenging time.

This book is the definition of fuck around and find out. In a silly and endearing way. Was a rather slow start for me personally but really picked up eventually. Had me lost at parts but the whole thing again was just so??? Like the silly human interactions are so realistic and funny and heartwarming, I can’t possibly give it only 3 stars.
