Quemadmodum gladius neminem occidit; occidentis telum est
What if you slept. And what if in your sleep you dreamed. And what if In your dream you went to heaven and there plucked a strange and beautiful flower. And what if when you awoke you had that flower in your hand. Ah, what then? If you never saw the stars, candles were enough. They were now just him and her. Not even that. They were only the time that they held between them. You could love the sleek, efficient beauty of a brand-new bullet train, but only a fool could imagine it would love you back. It was a sort of ferocious, quiet beauty, the sort that wouldn’t let you admire it. The sort of beauty that just always hurt. It was, she thought, just as she felt when she looked at the stars,... If he had no one to wrap their arms around him when he was sad, could he be forgiven for letting his anger lead him? “Tears don’t become us.” Night is as dark as you feel it ought to be.

4,5 Stars This was so much better than the first book! I was sceptical at first, because the story started a little slow, but..oh boy...it did pick up some speed! Especially in the end! A lot of things happened, that I wouldn't have suspected! And I finally started to bond with the characters. Mostly Ronan, because most of the book is about his story. But they all grew a little bit more on me!
Is it just me or was this book just average good in comparison to The Raven Boys? The finale was exciting, but everything else was kind of building up to something that yet has to be revealed. The characters themselves were great as usual but the plot was not that exciting. Adam is still struggling with whatever he is dealing with. Wanting to be his own person and not being a charity case is clear as day here and totally understandable. Him getting a more important story considering the lay lines is nice and fresh for the future. Ronan discovered that he's not alone and up for greater things. Noah is mostly absent. Gansey and Blue are just...there?? They seem to be the least important characters in The Dream Thieves. But maybe this book needed to be like this for Blue Lily, Lily Blue. To show more background and slightly introduce a bigger villain. I don't know yet, but I'm definitely going to read the third book because the story still interests me enough, I'm halfway through the series and I self-quarantined myself so yeah, Blue Lily, Lily Blue is going to happen for me. I mean, a lot of times I just skipped over the paragraphs because they felt so describing that it was too much for me. Maybe that's why the book was almost boring for me. There were paragraphs that I could think myself totally in and then there was a time where I wasn't feeling it at all. I felt so disconnected sometimes and I don't know if it's the writing or me, but we will see. I'm not giving up. See you at Blue Lily, Lily Blue.
