Early morning, June 2019: on the foreshore of the river Thames, a bag of bones is discovered. Human bones. DCI Samuel Owusu is called to the scene and quickly sends the bag for forensic examination. The bones are those of a young woman, killed by a blow to the head many years ago. Also inside the bag is a trail of clues, in particular the seeds of a rare tree which lead DCI Owusu back to a mansion in Chelsea where, nearly thirty years previously, three people lay dead in a kitchen, and a baby waited upstairs for someone to pick her up. The clues point forward too to a brother and sister in Chicago searching for the only person who can make sense of their pasts. Four deaths. An unsolved mystery. Mein einziger Rat: Lest vorher Was damals geschah. Oder zumindest eine kurze Zusammenfassung. Ihr werdet es nicht bereuen. 🖤 ?#rezension #bookstagram #lesenistliebe

The epilogue of ‘The Family Upstairs’ in a whole book! 🏠

A bag of bones is found in the Rive Thames. Readers of ‘The Family Upstairs‘ already know how it got there—and who it is. For DI Samuel Owusu, however, it marks the start of a quest for the truth! ‘The Family Remains’ was fun to read, but for much of the time, it felt like a 450-page epilogue of the prequel. The story was narrated in Lisa Jewell’s signature gripping and tense style, switching between different POVs, places and times. But there were hardly any new revelations or unexpected twists. It’s a great read if you enjoyed the creepy atmosphere and unconventional characters of ‘The Family Upstairs’, but not something you should pick up purely for the plot.
