3.5Gut, mit Luft nach oben
Ich liebe Zombie-Geschichten, bisher vor allem in visuellem Format. Hier nun erstmals als Buch wobei es in Zusammenhang steht mit einem Film: Zunächst als Kurzgeschichte geschrieben wurde diese Vorlage des Films "The Girl with all The Gifts"; die Arbeiten an dem Drehbuch wiederum (an dem der Autor mitgeschrieben hat) haben sich auf das Buch ausgewirkt. Ich bin sehr zufrieden mit der Geschichte. Es hat alles, was eine gute Zombie-Story braucht: etwas Mystik über die Herkunft des Zombie-Virus, eine Road-Story mit Überlebenskampf, gute Charaktere, mit denen man mitfiebert, böse Charaktere, die hoffentlich ihre verdiente Strafe bekommen; aber auch die Frage nach dem Sinn des Lebens in einer post-apokalyptischen Welt, und manches wird anders als anfangs gedacht. Und das drastische Ende mit unerwarteten Plottwist packt einen. Was mir sehr gefallen hat: dass jedes Kapitel aus der Sicht einer der Protagonist*innen geschrieben wurde. Aber alles Gute hat noch Luft nach oben, viele Expositionen, die es nicht braucht, manchmal zieht sich die Geschichte und hat hier und da manche Längen. Das Buch könnte rund 100 Seiten kürzer sein. Manchmal ist weniger mehr... Trotzdem gibt es eine Lese-Empfehlung für Zombie-Fans. Lese-Soundtrack: Korn

Joe, but they are well enough done to not be too boring. The only character to stand out is Melanie, the ten year old girl, who introduces us to the story. The voice of a believable child character is hard to pull off and very well done here. Her unique views on the world around her are amusing. The plot moves along smoothly and has many interesting twists and turns, some predictable, some unexpected, with a very good ending. If you are a fan of this genre definitely give it a try.
