Description

Bestselling author and New York Times proclaimed "hit factory" Marie Lu delivers another heart-pounding adventure in this exhilarating sequel to The Young Elites.

Once upon a time, a girl had a father, a prince, a society of friends. Then they betrayed her, and she destroyed them all.

Adelina Amouteru’s heart has suffered at the hands of both family and friends, turning her down the bitter path of revenge. Now known and feared as the White Wolf, she and her sister flee Kenettra to find other Young Elites in the hopes of building her own army of allies. Her goal: to strike down the Inquisition Axis, the white-cloaked soldiers who nearly killed her.

But Adelina is no heroine. Her powers, fed only by fear and hate, have started to grow beyond her control. She does not trust her newfound Elite friends. Teren Santoro, leader of the Inquisition, wants her dead. And her former friends, Raffaele and the Dagger Society, want to stop her thirst for vengeance. Adelina struggles to cling to the good within her. But how can someone be good, when her very existence depends on darkness?

My heart was beating the entire time reading this book. I've never thought I could love and hate a character this much at the same time, but Adelina really takes the crown in this one. I'm heartbroken of how everything turned out for her. I took a week long break with this book, because I couldn't handle the stress. Because that's what it did: it stressed me the hell out.

I'm really conflicted when it comes to The Young Elites series. I have to say I love the story. It is fast-paced, unbelievable captivating and the writing is on point! But my inner conflict is that I have a love/hate relationship with every single one of the characters! And I do not exaggerate here! I'm so confused by my feelings while reading this book as I have never been before with other books. How is it possible that I understand all the characters motives and comprehend why they do all those things (mostly bad things) but still feel so furious and upset about it. The only character that I truly love who is only introduced in this book is Magiano. He is my light in the darkness also known as "the plot of the young elites novels". I have to admit that this is my first time reading dark fantasy and also my first time having an anti-hero / villain as main protagonist. It feels weird but I enjoy it immensely. But why do I feel so unsettled after reading these books? It's difficult to put into words. I can't think of a specific situation that I disliked or anything but it's the overall mood of the book. I'm pretty sure that we're approaching a tragic ending and that every character ruins their chance of happiness. And I'm aware that this series is not at all about happy endings but it kind of leaves me unsettled in general. I love how Marie Lu is setting everything up to the ending but I feel the need for a tiny flicker of hope for the characters and right now I feel that there is none. I just want Adelina to be happy and to feel loved and needed. And I want her to be with Magiano - Damn it! But beside my preference for happy endings Marie Lu does such an incredible job. I'm at a loss for words. And I can't believe that I have to wait for the last installment!

Twitter || Blog || Pinterest || Tumblr || Instagram || Facebook

I love this series. I love how dark it is at times. Adelina's mix of innocence, madness, hunger for power and naivety is fantastic. I also really like the secondary characters, especially Magiano. I'm very curious to see how the story continues and if Adelina will completely lose herself in darkness and madness. The ending definitely gives hope for an exciting final volume. The audio book narrators did an excellent job.
