Hach, locker zehn Jahre stand das bei mir im Regal. Wie konnte ich mich nur vom Umfang so lange abschrecken lassen und mir diese Freude versagen? In einem Wort: Masterpiece. My heart is full. Becky ist ein solch bewundernswertes Monster, Amelia eine solche bemitleidenswerte Trotteline, und Dobbin, der erwärmt mein Herz einfach nur. Da ich das andere gerade gelesen habe, auch wenn so ein Vergleich albern ist: Vanity Fair gefällt mir besser als Anna Karenina. Es ist auf jeden Fall amüsanter. Ein satirischer Gesellschaftsroman ist einfach my jam. Anspruchsvolles Lesen. Exemplarisch möge auf die 50 Seiten Fußnoten hingewiesen sein, mit denen Referenzen etc. erklärt werden, die bald 200 Jahre nach Erscheinen schwer verständlich sind.
