Description
In the city of Alante, the descendants of the Greek gods live alongside mortals.
Io is the youngest of three sisters, descended from the Fates. She can see threads: shimmering silver lines connecting every person. When a new relationship is formed, a new thread appears. When a person's life-thread is cut, it's their time to die. Io uses her gifts as a private investigator, trying to make ends meet in a world which treats other-born people like her with suspicion and prejudice.
Then Io is witness to a murder - but this is no ordinary murder. Io can see that the killer's life-thread is severed. They should be long dead.
More complicated still, there is another witness: Edei, a member of the violent Rossi mob who rule Alante. And what Io can see immediately, although Edei cannot, is that there is a bright silver fate-thread connecting them. This boy is her destiny.

I initially wasn't particularly interested in the book (in hindsight: ew @ me) and was somewhat ready to unhaul while still unread. However, this turned out to be a really fun book! Loved the plot, the characters, the magic system and the way it all played out in the end. I'm not big into Greek mythology retellings and books inspired by such and had I known the mythology aspect before reading this book, I don't know if I would have enjoyed it to the extent that I did. Having said that: I think a big part of the fun for me was actually the magic system in general, and especially the incorporation of threads into the magic part, as well as the world building. Then there's also rebellion, gangs, politics, which are a big yes from me. Really excited for book two! Bonus: I read the Fairyloot edition which has a really nice flop.
3,5-3,75 ⭐️ Sehr coole ya fantasy. Das Urbane setting hat mir gotham City vibes gegeben was ich absolut geliebt habe. Die Charaktere sind vielschichtig und interessant. Der Plot war spannend. In der Mitte hat es sich leicht gezogen aber das hat das spannende Finale wieder wet gemacht. Bin gespannt wie es im zweiten Teil weiter gehen wird.
Threads That Bind bekommt von mir 4,5 Sterne. Das Buch mit seinen 340 Seiten las sich sehr schnell, es war kurzweilig und trotzdem gut geschrieben. Der Mystery Aspekt, dass unsere Heldin Io Morde aufdecken möchte, ist richtig gut gemacht. Ich dachte mal ich hätte die Lösung, allerdings hat sich zum Ende hin doch etwas anderes rausgestellt. Die Beziehungen von Io zu den anderen Protagonisten waren schön erzählt und zu jederzeit glaubwürdig. Ich bin sehr gespannt auf den zweiten Teil und freue mich schon darauf.
Okay so this was just very meh. I feel like the plot only got interesting on the last 100 pages. I don't care for any of the characters, they were all so boring? And I literally hate how they solved that one problem with the main characters. But on the other hand the ending was quite nice, even though it was kind of predictable. So I've read worse, I've read better, just overall pretty average.

Alle Menschen sind durch ihre Fäden miteinander verbunden. Io muss ihre Magie dafür einsetzen diejenigen zu finden, die andere mit Magie töten. Dabei muss sie durch das Netz ihrer Fähigkeit den richtigen Weg und ihre eigenen Fäden versuchen zu ignorieren. Aber findet sie den richtigen Faden der sie zu den Puppenspielern der Morde führt? Und wie weit wird sie für ihre eigenen Fäden gehen? Eine sehr interessante Welt und Magie, allerdings wird man an einigen Stellen mit Fakten überhäuft, die dann nur minimal auch in Charakteren gezeigt werden (die Magie wird eher erklärt anstatt in der Geschichte gezeigt). Die vielen Wendungen in Io‘s Suche nach den Verantwortlichen scheint sich ein wenig im Kreis zu drehen und eröffnet zu Ende einen Schuldigen, der zuvor fast gar nicht gezeigt wurde.
