Story Mir hat die Geschichte echt gut gefallen. Tatsächlich mochte ich es, dass sich die Spannung hier kontinuierlich aufgebaut hat und es eher langsam gestartet ist. Das haben ja einige bemängelt. Im letzten Drittel ist dann ordentlich Tempo drin, hier finde ich allerdings, dass es hätte besser verteilt sein können. Die Ereignisse haben sich etwas überschlagen und es wirkte dann doch etwas zu gehetzt. Aber nichtsdestotrotz mochte ich den Verlauf der Geschichte, es gab auf einen Plottwist, mit dem ich nicht gerechnet hätte. Es ist eine typische YA Fantasy Geschichte und slow burn. Hier liegt der Fokus auch ganz klar auf der Geschichte, nicht auf dem Love Interest. Den „Twist“ dahingehend hätte ich persönlich etwas besser gefunden, wenn es dazu ein oder zwei Sätze mehr gegeben hätte. Grundsätzlich aber eine spannende Geschichte mit dystopischem Touch. I really liked the story. In fact, I liked that the suspense built steadily here and it started off rather slowly. Some have complained about that. In the last third there is a lot of speed,I think it could have been better distributed. The events rolled over a bit and it seemed a bit too rushed. But nonetheless I liked the way the story unfolded, there was a plot twist I wasn't expecting. It's a typical YA fantasy story and slow burn. The focus here is also clearly on the story, not on the love interest. Personally, I would have found the "twist by Dalca" a little better if there had been one or two more sentences. Basically an exciting story with a dystopian touch. Worldbuilding Das Worldbuilding fand ich richtig gut. Die Idee eines Sturmes, der wie ein Damoklesschwert über dem Schicksal der Stadt schwebt hat mir gut gefallen. Vor allem was IN dem Sturm passiert war interessant. Die Auswirkungen des Sturmes auf die Menschen in den einzelnen Ringen und die Wesen die der Sturm ausgesandt hat und grundsätzlich die Verhältnisse mit der Regia, fand ich sehr gut. Es ist eine Mischung aus Tribute von Panem, Angelussaga und Shadow and Bone. Ich finde das Worldbuilding ist wirklich gut gelungen, ich konnte mir alles sehr gut vorstellen und in diese Welt abtauchen. The worldbuildingwas good. I liked the idea of a storm hanging over the fate of the city like the sword of Damocles. Especially what happened IN the storm was interesting. I found the effects of the storm on the people in the individual rings and the beings sent out by the storm and basically the situation with the Regia very good. It's a mixture of Hunger Games, Angelussaga (German book series) and Shadow and Bone. The worldbuilding is really well done, I could imagine everything very well and immerse myself in this world. Characters Ich mochte vor allem die Hauptprotagonisten sehr gern. Vesper und Dalca haben mir gut zusammen gefallen und auch Cas und Iz haben gut in die Gruppe gepasst. Die Dynamik zwischen den Charakteren war greifbar und die einzelnen Verbindungen authentisch. An Vesper mochte ich die bescheidene und doch Mutige Art. Ihre schwierige Beziehung zu ihrem Vater war nachvollziehbar und wurde gut aufgegriffen. Ihren Vater allerdings fand ich etwas zu flach beschrieben, da hätte ich mir mehr gewünscht, denn er spielt noch eine entscheidende Rolle. Mein Lieblingscharakter ist aber Izamal. Umso bestürzter war ich über seine Entwicklung, obwohl sie sogar nachvollziehbar war, meiner Meinung nach. I especially liked the main characters. I liked Vesper and Dalca together and Cas and Iz also fit well into the group. The dynamic between the characters was tangible and the individual connections authentic. I liked the modest yet courageous nature of Vesper. Her difficult relationship with her father was understandable and was well addressed. However, I found the description of her father a bit too flat, I would have wished for more, because he still plays a decisive role. My favorite character is Izamal though. I was all the more dismayed by his development, even though it was understandable, in my opinion. Writing Style Der Schreibstil hat mir sehr gut gefallen. Das Buch lies sich flüssig lese und durch die Ich-Perspektive hatte man jederzeit guten Einblick in die Gefühlslage von Vesper. Wie Anfangs erwähnt wurde die Spannung kontinuierlich aufgebaut, die dann im letzten Drittel ihren Höhepunkt erreicht hat. Dennoch hätte ich mir gewünscht, dass die Verteilung hier etwas ausgeglichener gewesen wäre. The book was easy to read and the first-person perspective gave me a good insight into Vesper's emotional state at all times. As mentioned at the beginning, the tension was constantly built up, which then reached its peak in the last third. Nevertheless, I would have wished that the distribution would have been a little more balanced here. Tropes & Quotes YA Fantasy Slow Burn Enemies to Lovers to Enemies Dystopian Touch „I find myself doing more and more that I do not like to do.“ […] „To do the one good thing that I must do, I find myself caught in a thousand small evils.“ „ […] „Look, I brought you something.“ Izamal pulls a package from his jacket, wax paper wrapped with a length of string. I tug the string loose, and the paper falls open to a waft of warm sugar and spices. […] I’ve seen them in third- and second-ring shops in passing, bud I’d never thought to shop and try them. […] „I saw you looking.“ Iz says.“ Conclusion Ich habe das Buch sehr gemocht. Für mich war es genau richtig so. Bis auf die Verteilung des Tempos habe ich auch nichts zu bemängeln. Ich konnte in diese Welt abtauchen, habe mit den Charakteren mitgefiebert und wollte immer wissen wie es weitergeht. Ich würde sagen, dieses Buch ist etwas für diejenigen, die YA Fantasy mögen und noch dazu kein Problem damit haben, wenn der Fokus nicht auf dem Love Interest liegt. Man sollte sich aber bewusst sein, dass die Geschichte mindestens bis zur Hälfte (eher 2/3) wirklich sehr ruhig ist. Von mir gibt es eine Leseempfehlung. It is a really good book. For me it was just right. Except for the distribution of the tempo, I have nothing to complain about. I was able to immerse myself in this world, rooted for the characters and always wanted to know how things will continue. I'd say this book is for those who like YA Fantasy and don't mind if the focus isn't on the love interest. But you should be aware that at least half of the story (rather 2/3) is really very sedate. I recommend this book.
