Oh my god. The beginning was so meh...I have only continued reading it because of a readalong chat with the fairyloot club. Especially Ben‘s chapters were boring and I was thinking to drop that book, but the second half of this book was so good and suprised me. I can‘t wait to read the sequel. So it enden for me with five stars.

I really wanted to like this book. I had pushed it away for so long but now it was time to check it out so that I could immediately get to the second book if I liked it. And I did. At first. The beginning of the book really intrigued me. Lu and Vex were interesting enough characters with magic and political intrigue woven into their plot line, but then I really got into Ben's story and basically just kept reading for him. This was what was really the downfall for me. Ben's part in the story got smaller and smaller and with every chapter I lost interest in Lu and Vex. I would still recommend this book to anyone who loves Fantasy and is interested in a story with a unique magic system and pirate. There's also not only a m/m but also a f/f relationship (the m/m definitely more prominent in the story). It's a well-written book, I just couldn't really connect with it and had to skip through a lot in the second half to even get through the whole thing. And even though the ending is a very abrupt cliffhanger, I still have no interest in seeing this story continue.
