Description

A fast-paced fantasy adventure set in a broken, future England, following the further exploits of the outlaws Scarlett and Browne.

Scarlett McCain and Albert Browne have outwitted their pursuers and escaped into the wilderness once more, and it's not long before they become famous for their audacious heists across the Seven Kingdoms. Yet neither is fully able to escape the shackles of the past - as they discover when a dangerous job turns sour.

Soon old enemies and sinister new threats are pressing in on every side, and Scarlett and Browne must pull off an impossible mission and strike out against The Faith Houses and the Brothers of the Hand if they are to save the people they hold most dear.

This was excellent and totally hooked me for the series! „The Notorious Scarlet and Browne“ by Jonathan Stroud is set about 6 months after the events of the first book in the series. We follow Scarlet and Albert as a now efficient team of outlaws getting in all kinds of trouble. Meeting old friends and new enemies. I won’t go into much detail about the plot since I would recommend going in without much knowledge. I did like the first volume in the series but I wasn’t blown away by it. This volume however totally changed my mind about the series! The story was engaging and had many interesting settings that expanded the world in a meaningful way. The dark worldbuilding pulled me in and suprised me at times in its emotional brutality. The pacing was fantastic and I wasn’t bored for a second. There where clues about the mysteries from the first book that really hooked me and I can’t wait to find out more. The most impactful aspect however was the character growth in this novel. The way the relationship developed between the protagonist was really heartwarming. I loved that we got to know more about the character’s past and it really made me empathize with them. Paired with Stroud’s outstanding writing this book had me in tears at a certain point. I’m full of praise and really can’t think of a thing I would change! I’m eagerly awaiting the next installment of „The Outlaws Scarlet and Browne“.
