T. C. Boyle is one of the few authors, who can write about every subject he likes - and I still enjoy the book (to say the truth: in the moment I can’t think of another one). Thought with this book, I had in the beginning my difficulties. The first third, I did not get into the book; I did not like Eddy O‘Kane in his misogyny, and the chapters describing Stanley‘s childhood and youth were to disturbing. In the second part, I was looking forward to the chapters with the flashbacks, because I found the live at Riven Rock and Eddy’s problems not really interesting. Only in the last part I also got interested in the narrated present. Over all I can say, I liked the book, but not as much as Boyle‘s other novels.
