"I can be a builder, not just a destroyer." It took me a week to write this review. This series is extremely well-written. And it has a lot more complexity than I'd originally anticipated. Both in the characters, the plot, and it's morality. The series so far was unpredictable without being irritating. These books constantly zigged when I expected them to zag. And while the ziggs that the book took were surprising, they were also always sensible and fit smoothly into the overall storyarch and world. My thoughts immediately after finishing the book: I feel like my brain chemistry is permanently altered. I genuinely cannot stop crying and I don't know if I’m in shock, traumatized, overwhelmed with love for these characters or maybe just in severe emotional pain. It actually might be a mix of all of them. And it continues??? Pierce Brown just woke up years after finishing the series and thought, "I didn’t put them through enough pain. Let me fix that." I couldn’t think of a more perfect ending to this first arc. Do I still have questions? Yes, many. Do I wish I got to see them finally happy? God fucking yes. Do I feel like it's actually over? Nope. But that’s the whole point. I love living in delulu land and pretent like everyone’s thriving! But Pierce Brown doesn’t want us to have nice things. I'm not ready for Iron Gold. Please someone tell me to suck it up and keep going.

Ich weiß gar nicht wo ich anfangen soll…😭 Dieses Buch ist Menschlichkeit an sich, mit allen guten und abgrundtief bösen Facetten.❤️🩹 Ich kann gar nicht in Worte fassen, wie unfassbar komplex und großartig alle Charaktere geschrieben sind. Die Intensität mit der ich einige Personen gehasst habe, dann Mitleid mit ihnen hatte, für Personen geheult habe, die es eigentlich nicht verdienen… Ich kann es wirklich nicht beschreiben.😭💔❤️🩹 Diese Reihe ist so unfassbar brutal, aber ehrlich.🥹 Ich habe dieses Buch quasi tot markiert, weil hier so viele unfassbar wichtige Zitate über Menschlichkeit, Familie, Freundschaft, Liebe und zweite Chancen drin stecken. Die Politik in dieser Reihe ist nichts anderes als unsere Realität in all ihren verschiedenen Versionen. Über all die Jahre bis heute und noch weiter bis in die Zukunft.❤️🩹 Darrow ist ein so unfassbar vielschichtiger Protagonist, der unglaublich durch machen muss. Er verändert sich über diese Zeit stark und trotzdem bleibt er im Kern immer der gleiche.❤️🩹

Liebe. Ganz viel Liebe für diese Trilogie. ❤️ Wenn ich das Buch nur mit zwei Worten beschreiben dürfte: emotionale Achternbahn. In einem Moment war ich vollster Euphorie, im nächsten habe ich nach dem Tod eines Charakters eine halbe Stunde heulend im Bett gesessen, bevor ich weiterlesen konnte. Ich weiß nicht, wie oft ich über dem Buch saß und fassungslos gegen die Wand gestarrt habe oder mit einem entsetzten "nicht ernsthaft?!" Passagen öfter lesen musste, weil ich nicht wahrhaben wollte, was passiert. So viele Wendungen, so viel Verrat. Ich stand die letzten zwei Tage unter Strom und konnte es kaum erwarten nach Feierabend endlich weiter lesen zu können. Man weiß wirklich nie, was als nächstes passiert und ich hab mich ständig dabei erwischt, wie ich jede Absicht und jedes Wort einiger Charaktere ständig hinterfragt habe. Aber keine Sorge, es gibt found family. Viel davon. The Howlers sind so 🤞🏻liebe diesen verrückten Haufen. Und Darrow of Lykos? I'm on my knees for this man. You arrogant, cocky, blonde smartass! Wenn ihr einen badass morally grey Protagonisten sucht: das ist euer Mann!
Diese Reihe ist einfach ein Meisterwerk. Ich kann gar nicht glauben, wie viele Aspekte der Geschichte sich hier noch einmal geändert und die gesamte Reise der Charaktere auch rückwirkend beeinflusst haben. Die unglaubliche Komplexität dieses Buches haut mich einfach immer noch um. Hier treffen wir altbekannte Charaktere wieder, lernen neue Figuren kennen und verfallen Seite um Seite den Emotionen, die wieder als fester Bestandteil in die Geschichte eingewebt sind. Und diese Gefühle haben mich wirklich auf jeder Seite getroffen. Egal ob die Szene nun traurig war oder vor Glück nur so strotzte. Geweint habe ich so oder so mehrere Male. Für mich hat sich diese Reihe mit dem Abschlussband direkt in die Favoritenliste katapultiert. Und bevor ich mit Band vier weitermache, muss ich vielleicht noch einmal Band eins rereaden, damit ich alle neuen Hintergründe, die ich hier entdeckt habe, direkt mit der Geschichte verknüpfen kann. Denn hier steckt so viel Komplexität drin, ich bin immer noch geschockt. Und das im positivsten Sinne.
Red Rising is what happens when you mix The Hunger Games and Game of Thrones and then put it in space. One of the best series I've read in ages. Where I I thought the first book was good, the second was better and Morning Star may even be my favourite from the three. Here some of my favourite things: The character developments were amazing, you could actually see the characters change from the first to the last page. None of the characters were actually good. Darrow has a kill count Darth Vader would be proud of, Sevro is literally mad, Mustang doesn't really know how to communicate I guess. And don't get me started on Roque, Cassius, Victra etc. Do I still kind of love them? Absolutely. I really enjoyed that you could just sympathise with all of the characters in (nearly) equal measure because none of them were actually nice people. Actual betrayal and murder. I'm so sick of characters betraying each other because of some minor inconvenience and then it barely has consequences. If you betray the main character it better be important, and it better deal him a heavy blow. Also a lot of important characters actually(!!) die. Just raises the stakes. Redemption Arcs. Some character got one and some didn't. Morning Star was absolutely epic and a worthy conclusion to the trilogy.

Das Buch ist ein grandioser Abschluss der ersten Red Rising Trilogie. Ich habe mit jeder Entscheidung mitgefiebert, um jeden gefallenen Charakter getrauert und jeden Charakter noch mehr ins Herz geschlossen. Die Entscheidungen des Autors die Geschichte so zu beenden, wie sie beendet wurde, war genau richtig. Sie ist in sich abgeschlossen und die folgende Bände müssen nicht zwangsläufig gelesen werden. Sie bietet jedoch genug Potenzial und Begeisterung für die nächsten Teile, dass ich mich bereits auf den nächsten Teil freu. Der Schreibstil, Spannungsbogen und die Charakterentwicklung sind einfach nur fantastisch und perfekt gelungen. Brown zieht einen immer wieder in die Welt rein und bildet keinen idealen Helden oder finsteren Schurken, sondern moralisch graue Charaktere, welche sowohl gut als auch böse Seiten an sich haben und man Ihnen eigentlich nicht böse sein kann für ihre Entscheidung.
My favorite of the trilogy so far. I finally felt a stronger connection to more of the characters, and I really enjoyed the dialogue and the banter between them. Still, I often had to push myself through certain parts and just didn’t feel like picking the book up. Many passages felt dense and dry, and the writing could be hard to get through at times. (But its probably just a preference and/or the personal timing of when this book finds you) The last 20% though…chef’s kiss. Loved everything about it & just a perfect conclusion. And since it’s so perfect, I’m not planning to continue with the next books right now and will just pretend this is the end of the series.

Morning Star das dritte Buch in der Red Rising Saga. Und was für eines. Von Anfang bis Ende spannend. Plot Twists die mich einfach nur umgehauen haben. Charakter Entwicklung top. Hatte soviel Spaß beim Lesen und ich werde direkt das nächste Buch der Reihe lesen.
Ein absolut episches Finale !!!
Hier kommt alles zusammen, was in Red Rising und Golden Son aufgebaut wurde. Es gibt so viele Twists und Turns, dass einem schwindelig wird. Die coolsten Charaktere tauchen in diesem Buch auf und das Ende fühlt sich SO verdient an. Ich werde mich noch lange an mehrere krasse Momente aus diesem Buch erinnern. 🤩
Vorweg: Die Rezension fällt kurz aus, weil ich nicht spoilern möchte. Band 1 handelte von Darrow und seinem näheren Umfeld. Er als Individuum stand im Mittelpunkt. Band 2 erläuterte die Politik und die gesellschaftlichen Strukturen. Die Gesellschaft stand im Mittelpunkt. Band 3 kombiniert das beste aus beiden Büchern, die emotionale Seite und die komplexen Strukturen, zu einem atemberaubenden Ende. Darrow musste schwere Schicksalsschläge erleiden, von denen er sich zwar erholt, die aus ihm aber einen anderen Menschen machen. Während er mir in Band 2 zu einem zu skrupellosen Kriegsherren mutierte, hinterfragt er in Band 3 öfter, was richtig und was falsch ist. Was moralisch vertretbar ist. – was nicht bedeutet, dass er weich wird! Darrow überrascht mit einem gut ausbalancierten Verständnis für Empathie und Verantwortung/Pflicht. Im Laufe der Reihe durchlebt er eine große Entwicklung und bleibt sich doch immer treu. Auch die Nebencharaktere Mustang, Sevro, Ragnar, Cassius, Roque, Victra sowie einige weitere werden in diesem Buch vertieft. Mit neuen Facetten und altbekanntem schwarzem Humor bringen sie den Leser zum Schmunzeln, zum Mitfiebern und Mitleiden. Insbesondere gelitten habe ich beim Lesen sehr. Charaktertode mit einem „Das kann nicht sein“-Effekt, ähnlich der Game-of-Thrones-Hochzeit, ließen das Herz gelegentlich stillstehen. Nur um wieder geflickt und wieder in Fetzen gerissen zu werden. Eine perfekt ausgeklügelte, wahnsinnig komplexe Geschichte von Rebellion und Krieg, in der aber auch Freundschaft und Liebe nicht zu kurz kommt, wenn auch manchmal auf merkwürdig gezeigte Art und Weise. 5 von 5 Sternen und eine klare Leseempfehlung von mir! Unmittelbare Reaktion nachdem ich das Buch beendet hatte? „Beendet. Jeder Charaktertod hat einen Teil meiner Seele herausgerissen. Jetzt sitze ich hier, baff und emotionslos – wie Voldemort nach dem Schaffen seiner Horcruxe – und muss die Geschichte verarbeiten. Ich brauche erstmal einen Schnaps und einen Serienmarathon, um wieder klarzukommen.“ Die beste Textstelle, die mich sooo sehr zum Lachen brachte (nur lustig, wenn man Sevro kennt): „Sevro, du bist vieles. Du müffelst. Du bist klein. Dein Tattoo-Geschmack ist fragwürdig. Deine pornografischen Vorlieben sind… äh… exzentrisch. Und du hast ziemlich bizarre Zehennägel.“ Er fährt zu mir herum. „Bizarr?“ „Sie sind verdammt lang. Kumpel. Du… solltest sie gelegentlich kürzen.“ „Nein. Sie sind nützlich, wenn man sich an etwas hängt.“ Ich sehe ihn blinzelnd an und bin mir nicht sicher, ob es ein Witz sein soll. Doch dann mache ich weiter, so gut ich kann. „Ich will nur darauf hinaus, dass man vieles über dich sagen kann. Aber nicht, dass du ein Idiot bist.“~S. 524f.
Reread update: 5/5 The first time I read Morning Star, I expected it to have the same vibe as Golden Son. I wanted it to be a jaw-dropping action spectacle the genre had never seen before. I wanted a world-shaking crescendo of sci-fi epicness, that makes Golden Son feel like a happy little stroll through the park. To put it short: I was disappointed in that regard, which is why I couldn't appreciate it as much as it actually deserves. While Golden Son was the book that focused on Darrow’s rage and struggle against a broken society, Morning Star feels a bit like catharsis. It is no longer a story about Darrow, but about the people around him, both those that he loves and hates. This is the most character-driven book of the first three in the series and therefore managed to have the most emotional impact on me this second time around. And even though the climax is, imo, still slightly anticlimactic and lacks some of the weight the rest of the series (especially Golden Son) manages to have, I still found myself in tears in the end. It is perfectly fitting and highly satisfying where this first part of the series ends and I don’t think it would have been for worse if it had ended there for good, so well done Pierce Brown, well done.
Habe lange mit mir gehadert, ob ich diesem Teil 5 Sterne geben soll, weil ich das Buch an einer gewissen Stelle wirklich am liebsten gegen die Wand geworfen hätte. Der plot hat mich so unfassbar mitgenommen und wütend gemacht, dass ich ihm am Ende genau deswegen 5 Punkte geben musste. Wenn ich an bestimmte Szenen aus diesem Teil denke, bekomme ich jetzt noch Gänsehaut. Die Geschichte wird einfach mit jedem Teil gewaltiger, emotionaler und epischer! Freue mich sehr auf die weiteren Teile!
Ein rundum gelungener Abschluss einer tollen Trilogie. Ich bin restlos überzeugt von Red Rising. Die Reihe hat sich meiner Meinung nach von Band zu Band noch gesteigert. Deshalb hatte ich Sorge Band 3 zu beginnen, aus Angst enttäuscht zu werden. Diese Angst hat sich jedoch als unbegründet herausgestellt. Ein tolles Finale mit viel Action und durchweg spannend. Letztlich kann ich sagen, dass Pierce Brown eine tolle Welt geschaffen hat, die von Marco Reinbold genial vertont wurde.
Pure perfection. Best final book of a trilogy I read in a while. First highlight of 2020. Oh dear, what amazing character evolvement, unforeseen plot twists and the way my emotions were played with is incomparable to date. Finally the series fulfilled the potential I trusted was there right from the start.

Brown zieht einen immer wieder in die Welt rein und bildet keinen idealen Helden oder finsteren Schurken, sondern moralisch graue Charaktere, welche sowohl gut als auch böse Seiten an sich haben und man Ihnen eigentlich nicht böse sein kann für ihre Entscheidung.
My favorite of the trilogy so far. I finally felt a stronger connection to more of the characters, and I really enjoyed the dialogue and the banter between them. Still, I often had to push myself through certain parts and just didn’t feel like picking the book up. Many passages felt dense and dry, and the writing could be hard to get through at times. (But its probably just a preference and/or the personal timing of when this book finds you) The last 20% though…chef’s kiss. Loved everything about it & just a perfect conclusion. And since it’s so perfect, I’m not planning to continue with the next books right now and will just pretend this is the end of the series.

Morning Star das dritte Buch in der Red Rising Saga. Und was für eines. Von Anfang bis Ende spannend. Plot Twists die mich einfach nur umgehauen haben. Charakter Entwicklung top. Hatte soviel Spaß beim Lesen und ich werde direkt das nächste Buch der Reihe lesen.
Ein absolut episches Finale !!!
Hier kommt alles zusammen, was in Red Rising und Golden Son aufgebaut wurde. Es gibt so viele Twists und Turns, dass einem schwindelig wird. Die coolsten Charaktere tauchen in diesem Buch auf und das Ende fühlt sich SO verdient an. Ich werde mich noch lange an mehrere krasse Momente aus diesem Buch erinnern. 🤩
Vorweg: Die Rezension fällt kurz aus, weil ich nicht spoilern möchte. Band 1 handelte von Darrow und seinem näheren Umfeld. Er als Individuum stand im Mittelpunkt. Band 2 erläuterte die Politik und die gesellschaftlichen Strukturen. Die Gesellschaft stand im Mittelpunkt. Band 3 kombiniert das beste aus beiden Büchern, die emotionale Seite und die komplexen Strukturen, zu einem atemberaubenden Ende. Darrow musste schwere Schicksalsschläge erleiden, von denen er sich zwar erholt, die aus ihm aber einen anderen Menschen machen. Während er mir in Band 2 zu einem zu skrupellosen Kriegsherren mutierte, hinterfragt er in Band 3 öfter, was richtig und was falsch ist. Was moralisch vertretbar ist. – was nicht bedeutet, dass er weich wird! Darrow überrascht mit einem gut ausbalancierten Verständnis für Empathie und Verantwortung/Pflicht. Im Laufe der Reihe durchlebt er eine große Entwicklung und bleibt sich doch immer treu. Auch die Nebencharaktere Mustang, Sevro, Ragnar, Cassius, Roque, Victra sowie einige weitere werden in diesem Buch vertieft. Mit neuen Facetten und altbekanntem schwarzem Humor bringen sie den Leser zum Schmunzeln, zum Mitfiebern und Mitleiden. Insbesondere gelitten habe ich beim Lesen sehr. Charaktertode mit einem „Das kann nicht sein“-Effekt, ähnlich der Game-of-Thrones-Hochzeit, ließen das Herz gelegentlich stillstehen. Nur um wieder geflickt und wieder in Fetzen gerissen zu werden. Eine perfekt ausgeklügelte, wahnsinnig komplexe Geschichte von Rebellion und Krieg, in der aber auch Freundschaft und Liebe nicht zu kurz kommt, wenn auch manchmal auf merkwürdig gezeigte Art und Weise. 5 von 5 Sternen und eine klare Leseempfehlung von mir! Unmittelbare Reaktion nachdem ich das Buch beendet hatte? „Beendet. Jeder Charaktertod hat einen Teil meiner Seele herausgerissen. Jetzt sitze ich hier, baff und emotionslos – wie Voldemort nach dem Schaffen seiner Horcruxe – und muss die Geschichte verarbeiten. Ich brauche erstmal einen Schnaps und einen Serienmarathon, um wieder klarzukommen.“ Die beste Textstelle, die mich sooo sehr zum Lachen brachte (nur lustig, wenn man Sevro kennt): „Sevro, du bist vieles. Du müffelst. Du bist klein. Dein Tattoo-Geschmack ist fragwürdig. Deine pornografischen Vorlieben sind… äh… exzentrisch. Und du hast ziemlich bizarre Zehennägel.“ Er fährt zu mir herum. „Bizarr?“ „Sie sind verdammt lang. Kumpel. Du… solltest sie gelegentlich kürzen.“ „Nein. Sie sind nützlich, wenn man sich an etwas hängt.“ Ich sehe ihn blinzelnd an und bin mir nicht sicher, ob es ein Witz sein soll. Doch dann mache ich weiter, so gut ich kann. „Ich will nur darauf hinaus, dass man vieles über dich sagen kann. Aber nicht, dass du ein Idiot bist.“~S. 524f.
Reread update: 5/5 The first time I read Morning Star, I expected it to have the same vibe as Golden Son. I wanted it to be a jaw-dropping action spectacle the genre had never seen before. I wanted a world-shaking crescendo of sci-fi epicness, that makes Golden Son feel like a happy little stroll through the park. To put it short: I was disappointed in that regard, which is why I couldn't appreciate it as much as it actually deserves. While Golden Son was the book that focused on Darrow’s rage and struggle against a broken society, Morning Star feels a bit like catharsis. It is no longer a story about Darrow, but about the people around him, both those that he loves and hates. This is the most character-driven book of the first three in the series and therefore managed to have the most emotional impact on me this second time around. And even though the climax is, imo, still slightly anticlimactic and lacks some of the weight the rest of the series (especially Golden Son) manages to have, I still found myself in tears in the end. It is perfectly fitting and highly satisfying where this first part of the series ends and I don’t think it would have been for worse if it had ended there for good, so well done Pierce Brown, well done.
Habe lange mit mir gehadert, ob ich diesem Teil 5 Sterne geben soll, weil ich das Buch an einer gewissen Stelle wirklich am liebsten gegen die Wand geworfen hätte. Der plot hat mich so unfassbar mitgenommen und wütend gemacht, dass ich ihm am Ende genau deswegen 5 Punkte geben musste. Wenn ich an bestimmte Szenen aus diesem Teil denke, bekomme ich jetzt noch Gänsehaut. Die Geschichte wird einfach mit jedem Teil gewaltiger, emotionaler und epischer! Freue mich sehr auf die weiteren Teile!
Ein rundum gelungener Abschluss einer tollen Trilogie. Ich bin restlos überzeugt von Red Rising. Die Reihe hat sich meiner Meinung nach von Band zu Band noch gesteigert. Deshalb hatte ich Sorge Band 3 zu beginnen, aus Angst enttäuscht zu werden. Diese Angst hat sich jedoch als unbegründet herausgestellt. Ein tolles Finale mit viel Action und durchweg spannend. Letztlich kann ich sagen, dass Pierce Brown eine tolle Welt geschaffen hat, die von Marco Reinbold genial vertont wurde.
Pure perfection. Best final book of a trilogy I read in a while. First highlight of 2020. Oh dear, what amazing character evolvement, unforeseen plot twists and the way my emotions were played with is incomparable to date. Finally the series fulfilled the potential I trusted was there right from the start.
