Polly Perks has to become a boy in a hurry if she wants to find her missing brother in the army. Cutting off her hair and wearing the trousers is easy. Going to war however, is not.
Polly and her fellow raw recruits are suddenly in the thick of a losing battle. All they have on their side is the most artful sergeant in the army and a vampire with a lust for coffee.
It's time to make a stand.

Inhalt: Frauen in Männerkleidern sind eine Abscheulichkeit in Nuggans Augen. Dennoch schneidet Polly sich ihre Locken ab und meldet sich als Oliver beim Militär. Das Land Borograwien liegt schon lange im Krieg, doch nun ist Pollys Bruder verschwunden und sie will ihn zurück holen. Bald schon stellt Polly fest, dass sie nicht das einzige Mädchen in der Truppe ist und gemeinsam machen sie sich auf, das Land, seine Leute und seine Bräuche auf den Kopf zu stellen. Meine Meinung: In „Weiberregiment“ greift Terry Pratchett viele ernste Themen auf: Der Krieg, Religion und die Gleichstellung. Das auf gewohnt unterhaltsame Weise. Dennoch fand ich diesen Band etwas ruhiger, schwerer als andere Geschichten. Wahrscheinlich, weil hier eine grosse Themenflut bearbeitet wird, was wenig Platz für Spässe und Witze lässt. Dennoch sind an den angebrachten Stellen immer wieder gut positionierte Hinweise und ironische Bemerkungen zu finden, die das Lesen wieder einmal zu einem Erlebnis machen. Ich mochte diesen Band sehr gerne, was vor allem an Polly liegt. An Polly und dem kaffeesüchtigen Vampir. Aber auch sonst tummeln sich auch hier wieder viele einzigartige Figuren, die mir nahe gegangen sind und ich so schnell nicht wieder vergessen werde. Was jedoch fehlte war ein Namensregister. Bei Stecher, Toller und Knaller wusste ich irgendwann wirklich nicht mehr, wer nun wer war. Die Namen sind sich viel zu ähnlich und nachdem sie vorgestellt wurden, dümpeln sie etwas zu lange im Hintergrund herum. Bis sie aktiv werden, hat man ihre Spitznamen längst wieder vergessen. Das war auch der einzige Punkt, der mir das Leseerlebnis etwas getrübt hat, da dies den Lesefluss erheblich gestört hat. Fazit: Ein lehrreiches und aufschlussreiches Buch aus der Scheibenwelt. Man lernt mal eine andere Gegend kennen und gleichzeitig wird einem ein Spiegel der eigenen Gesellschaft vorgehalten. „Weiberregiment“ gehört definitiv zu meinen Lieblingsbüchern Pratchetts, da es ein eindrückliches Werk ist und die Figuren wirklich stark gezeichnet sind.
