Eine Ehe, zwei Wahrheiten
Das Buch erzählt die Geschichte von Lotto und Mathilde, der erste Teil (Licht) aus Lottos Perspektive und der zweite Teil (Zorn) aus Mathildes, wobei sich beide Sichtweisen deutlich voneinander unterscheiden. Ein vielschichtiger Roman mit zahlreichen Oha-Momenten im zweiten Teil, wenn einem nach und nach die gesamte Geschichte offenbar wird. Teilweise fand ich das Buch anstrengend, so dass ich - gerade im ersten Teil - einige Seiten überblättert habe. Der zweite Teil ist zugänglicher, doch auch dies hat mir die Hauptpersonen nicht nähergebracht.
Ich konnte leider keinerlei Zugang zu den Protagonisten finden. Die Idee der Story ist sehr gut.
✨ Irgendwo habe ich gelesen, der amerikanische Präsident und seine Gattin hätten "Licht und Zorn" auf einer Liste ihrer Lieblingsbücher aufgeführt - und das mit Recht: Lauren Groff erzählt angenehm unaufgeregt die Geschichte einer großen Liebe, einer in ihrer Perfektion nahezu unheimlichen Ehe. ✨ Für den ersten Teil dieses Buches „Licht“ würde ich nur 3 Sterne vergeben. Darin wird die Geschichte aus der Perspektive von Lancelot, genannt Lotto geschildert. Das geschieht teilweise langatmig aber auch verwirrend. Der zweite Teil „Zorn“ aus der Perspektive von Mathilde ist deutlich spannender und erhellender. Dort sind die Guten nicht nur gut und die Bösen nur böse. Der beste Teil für mich ist das letzte Kapitel und beginnt mit "Die Ehe war Mathematik“. ✨ Bezüglich der Gesamtbewertung zu diesem Buch bin ich hin & hergerissen. Es ist intelligent, ehrlich & schonungslos geschrieben. Einen richtigen Zugang konnte ich zu den Protagonisten jedoch nicht finden. Ich hatte mir etwas mehr Spannung erhofft. Allerdings ist auch „erschreckend“ wie unterschiedlich die Ehe von den beiden Hauptdarstellern wahrgenommen wird und das macht dieses Buch dann doch wieder spannend.
This book was really hyped and I thought it would really wow me with excellent writing and wonderful characters and their description. The story was okay, I honestly struggled to get through and it almost pushed me into a reading slump. Mathilde as a person is just spiteful and the writing didn’t help with the sympathy/empathy bit for her. Lotto was a really shallow character and apart from being told repeatedly he is not handsome, there isn’t much substance to him. Yes he was described as being an artist and playwright who wrote jaw dropping pieces of work, it felt mostly vague and without depth. The other characters also didn’t get much mention, it would have been nice to read more about how Rachel grew up and the contrast with Lotto. I don’t know if I’m a 3⭐️ or 2.5⭐️.. I think I’ll be back to re-evaluate. All in all not bad just excessively long, and not really pointed. 2.5⭐️s it is… Edit: absolutely forgettable book, down to 1.5⭐️s
4 stars ⭐️ Beautiful poetic language, sadly lacking something. I absolutely adored Groff's writing style and the way she explored the story and told it in changing perspectives and words that resemble more poetry than prose. However, I can't shake the feeling that the characters and plot were a bit too blunt.
