Description
In the city of stairs, nothing is as it seems.
You've got to be careful when you're chasing a murderer through Bulikov, for the world is not as it should be in that city. When the gods were destroyed and all worship of them banned by the Polis, reality folded; now stairs lead to nowhere, alleyways have become portals to the past, and criminals disappear into thin air.
The murder of Dr Efrem Pangyui, the Polis diplomat researching the Continent's past, has begun something and now whispers of an uprising flutter out from invisible corners.
Only one woman may be willing to pursue the truth - but it is likely to cost her everything.

ARC provided by Netgalley This book got high praises by FBC and I saw it was available on Netgally, so I tried my luck and luckily received a copy. Robert Jackson Bennett used the hook, line sinker method perfectly in this novel. The hook is a very cleverly done introduction to the world, in a unique way, that instantly sparked my interest. The line is the entrance of our main character Shara. Refreshing to see a strong and intelligent female lead character and not a teenage one at that. The sinker is the amazing world Bennett created. This too, feels pleasantly fresh. It's a mix of urban fantasy with a technological advanced society and standard fantasy elements. The whole history surrounding the world is very interesting and get's explored a lot. The story is very well paced and keeps a narrow focus on the main character, no complex multi layered PoV strands. Overall a very entertaining novel, with great characters, a gripping story and a rich world. What more could you possibly want? Even though it will not come out until September you should definitely put it on your to-read list! Highly recommended
