Atmospheric and beautifully written
I loved Hungerstone by Kat Dunn, so I was really excited to read this one. This is my second book by her, and once again I really loved her writing. Her prose is beautiful and atmospheric, and that was definitely my favorite part of the book. I liked Bitterthorn, but it did not pull me in as much as Hungerstone did. Since it is inspired by a fairy tale, I think part of the suspense was missing for me because I had a feeling where the story was going quite early on. I really liked Mina. She felt lonely and out of place in her own family, and that made her easy to feel for. I also liked that she was not really afraid of the witch, but more curious about her. The relationship between them was interesting, and I liked the atmosphere a lot, but overall I still felt like something was missing. Still, it was a good read, and Kat Dunn’s writing is the reason I will definitely keep reading her books.
