    Selten ein so langweiliges Buch gelesen, d.h. nach 156 Seiten abgebrochen, da nichts mehr zu erwarten war. Schade habe schon sehr lustige und interessantere Bücher von diesem Autor gelesen

    Ich hab mir von diesem Buch mehr versprochen, weil ich andere Reisegeschichten von Bryson amüsant und lesenswert fand und eine große Schwäche für die britische Insel habe. Leider ist dieses Buch nur zum Teil interessant und zu einem großen anderen Teil nicht so spannend.

    Ein Amerikaner, der ein knappes Jahrzehnt in England gelebt hat, unternimmt Ende der 90er eine letzte große Reise um die kleine Insel, bevor er mit seiner Familie in die Vereinigten Staaten auswandert. Bryson schreibt wie er denkt und es gelingt ihm, sich in einer Art und Weise über die Eigenheiten des Vereinigten Königreiches zu empören, dass jeder Wiener neidisch wird. Jedoch nicht, ohne die ihm liebenswürdigen Eigenheiten ebenfalls herauszukehren. Ab einem gewissen Punkt wird es jedoch sehr repetitiv, dennoch eine Empfehlung "for a light read".
