... natürlich musste ich meine Reading Challenge meiner 50 im Jahr 2025 begonnenen Bücher wieder unterbrechen für den neuesten Thriller von Alice Feeney. Und er war gut. Nicht soooo gut, dass ich - wie die meisten Booktoker - ihn gleich mit dem besten Thriller 2026 bewerten würde, aber die Twists waren wirklich krass, sie überschlagen sich am Ende wortwörtlich... Und das Ende erst... Also ich kann ihn guten Gewissens empfehlen und Alice Feeney ist langsam für mich in die Top 5 zu bewertenden Thrillerautoren gestiegen. 4 🌟
Länger nicht mehr so gefesselt von einem Buch gewesen. Ich war erst Mal ewig verwirrt was nun los ist, mir den Kopf zerbrochen wer da böse sein könnte und wie was passiert sein könnte, aber am Ende war alles doch sehr anders als ich gedacht hatte. Konnte das Buch gar nicht aus der Hand legen. Hatte es gestern Abend angefangen und bis jetzt in die Nacht durch gelesen. Kann es nur mehr als empfehlen.

Anfangs war die Story verwirrend, aber nach und nach wurde es klarer. Einige Twists habe ich nicht kommen sehen. Das Ende war... Unerwartet. Spannend ab dem ersten Kapitel. War mein erstes Buch von Alice Feeney und wird nicht mein letztes gewesen sein 😊 4 ⭐
"The present is only the past in the making" Let me start by saying: I’ve always loved Feeney’s books. She’s one of the authors who sits comfortably on my priority list. And this book didn't disappoint. It absolutely blew my mind in the best, most chaotic way possible. I couldn't handle the amount of plot twists. It's insanity. The book kicks off with a woman returning from her run to find her husband, the man she’s been married to for YEARS, doesn't recognise her. Like, genuinely looks at her as if she’s a complete stranger. From that moment on, she’s thrown into spiraling confusion. She talks to people, reaches out for help, tries everything, but instead of clarity, she discovers there’s another woman out there who looks exactly like her, pretending to be her. Nobody does the unreliable character trope better than Feeney. I didn't trust a single character in this book. And from there it just kept escalating. Layer after layer. This book kept serving plot twists like it was on a mission. This thriller is a whole whirlwind of suspense, chaos, drama, the works. My only complaint and this is a very mild spoiler: You can't tell me any grown person fits in the back of a Mini car. No way no how!

Twist after twist. Ich habe mir so sehr gewünscht dieses Buch zu mögen und die ersten hundert Seiten waren auch sehr viel versprechend, doch danach wurden nicht nur die Charaktere, sondern auch die ganze Handlung unsympathisch. Ich fühle mich nach dem Lesen richtig schlecht. Der Autorin war es wichtiger einen Twist nach dem anderen aufzusetzen, als eine plausible Handlung auszuarbeiten. Ihre Charaktere wirken alle wie aus einer Hand - mit einer fast identischen Persönlichkeit, inklusive derber Sprache und Gedanken. Wenn am Ende die meisten Sympathiepunkte der/ die angebliche Böse in der Geschichte hat, dann hat man als Autorin doch etwas falsch gemacht, denn so war es definitiv nicht beabsichtigt. Schade um die eigentlich sehr gute Idee. Es war viel Potential vorhanden. Das Buch selbst liest sich gut und schnell weg. Durch die vielen Cliffhanger wollte ich immer wissen wie es weiter geht und es lässt einen auch wirklich lange im Unklaren, sodass es spannend bleibt. Dafür ist die Auflösung dann wirklich nicht mehr als 0815-Thriller.
From the beginning, this book really hooked me. The idea of Eden Fox not being recognized by her husband, her daughter, or anyone in her town, and essentially having her entire life taken from her, was such an interesting and eerie concept. Each chapter kept me wanting more, and it was hard to put down. The pacing was strong, and I stayed engaged the whole time. Overall, I really enjoyed the story and thought the concept was very unique. Where the book lost me a bit was with the big plot twist. There were scenes where Harrison and Birdie were alone together but acted like they didn’t even know each other. That felt unrealistic to me, and it seemed like it was done purely to mislead the reader rather than feel natural within the story, and that part kind of took me out of it. That being said, I still really liked the overall idea, and the ending was definitely interesting. The reveal that Sergeant Carter’s wife was the one who killed Eden added another layer to the story that I didn’t expect. I also really liked Alice Feeney’s writing style; it was my first time reading a book by her and I really enjoyed the way she writes, it kept me engaged the entire time. Overall, I would give this book a 4 out of 5. Favorite Quotes: “Sometimes the people who know you best are the ones who stop recognizing you first.” “You can lose your entire life without ever leaving the town you were born in.” “I kept waiting for someone to confirm I was real again, but no one ever did.” “The truth doesn’t arrive all at once. It slips in quietly, pretending it was always there.” “If everyone insists you don’t belong to your own life, at what point do you start to believe them?” “They looked at me like I was a stranger, and I started wondering if I had always been one.” “Memory is not proof. People rewrite you until you no longer recognize yourself.”
Dieses Buch hat süchtig gemacht. Ein absolut spannender Thriller, der einen durch die Kapitel fliegen und miträtseln lässt. Hab jede Seite geliebt und ihr Schreibstil hat mir auch sehr gut gefallen, denke das wird nicht mein letzter Feeney Roman auf Englisch gewesen sein. Und am Ende überrascht sie natürlich wie immer mit einem jaw-dropping Twist nach diversen anderen Twists im Laufe der Geschichte. 🤯 loved it! 🫶🏼

For the first 20%, I thought I knew exactly where this was going. Turns out, I knew NOTHING. This book kept surprising and shocking me until the end and I was extremely invested in the story. I especially loved that all of the characters were flawed and unreliable because it made me question who I could actually trust. And while the twists shocked me, I appreciated that they never felt random or forced. I‘m taking of half a star because the ending felt a bit rushed, but overall I had a great time and will for sure check out more books by this author. Also, I highly recommend listening to the audiobook!! The sound effects added so much to the gloomy, eerie atmosphere and the different narrators made it easier to keep track of the multiple POVs.

Das war mein erstes Buch von Alice Feeney und was soll ich sagen außer - holy guacamole 🫣 Diese Plot-Twists waren twistiiiiiiiing! Ich war von der ersten Seite an absolut gefesselt und bis zum Schluss ist es so geblieben. Ich dachte nach dem ersten Kapitel das ich das Ende schon weis, mir alles zusammen reinen kann aber - nope, absolut nicht 😅 Die Charaktere waren perfekt beschrieben, die Kapitel kurz und knapp mit sooooo viel Spannung das ich mein Kindle nicht aus der Hand legen wollte .. es war wirklich fantastisch und ich kann dieses Buch wirklich jedem nur ans Herz legen! Eine ganz klar verdiente 10/10! ⭐️
Hier ist absolut nichts, wie es scheint. Und das ist unfassbar brilliant. Alice Feeney kann es, meiner Meinung nach, vollkommen mit Sebastian Fitzek aufnehmen, denn das, was sie hier geschrieben hat, ist ein Meisterwerk. So viele Personen. So viele Geheimnisse. So viele persönliche Interessen. Und am Anfang erscheint alles unfassbar wirr und zusammenhangslos. Wer gehört zu den Guten? Wer gehört zu den Bösen? Und wandert jemand vom Guten zum Bösen oder andersherum? Ich konnte dieses Buch einfach nicht aus der Hand legen. Der Schreibstil ist so, so gut und die Geschichte perfekt. Man fliegt nur so durch die vielen kurzen Kapitel, bei denen jedes Mal die Perspektive und/oder die Zeit wechselt. Jedes Kapitel endet mit einem WTF-Moment und lässt dich ratloser zurück als du am Anfang des Kapitels noch warst. Es ist eine wahnsinnig spannende Achterbahn an Geschehennissen, Gefühlen und der ständigen Frage "Wem kann ich hier vertrauen?" Am Ende wird alles aufgeklärt und natürlich ist es am Ende alles doch ganz anders, als ich anfangs oder zwischendrin gedacht habe. Auf dieses Ende wäre ich niemals gekommen. Ich weiß nicht, was ihr heute tut, aber ich werde direkt mal recherchieren, welche weiteren Bücher Alice Feeney geschrieben hat, denn eins ist sicher: Ich möchte sie ALLE lesen! ❓Hast du schon ein Buch von Alice Feeney gelesen? Oh damn, that was an (almost) perfect book I'll surely be recommending to everybody in need of a diverting thriller rec or is trying to get out of a reading slump: • < 310 pages + short chapters... • ... from multiple POVs, always ending with a cliff hanger • fast-paced • MANY, MANY plot-twists • the captivating writig style • DCI Birdy as our bad-ass chracter who showed her male colleague some boundaries • did NOT see the end coming My only minuscule downside was that the ending felt a little rushed. I would have enjoyed a bit more "build up" instead of just "plating" us that many twists at once. (To be fair though, I might have been just tired and overstimulated from reading this book so fast). AWESOME book though. Please do yourself a favour and read it NOW!

Das war mal wieder ein Thriller der ganz tollen Art. Ich mag den Schreibstil von Alice Feeney sehr gerne. Das war mittlerweile mein 3. Thriller von ihr und alle haben mir sehr gut gefallen. Es gab immer wieder kleinere Plot Twists zwischendurch aber bis zum Ende hab ich nicht durchgeblickt und es hat mich sehr überrascht. Man bekommt viele verschiedene Perspektiven und alle lassen einen Rätseln. Ich konnte mir auch die Umgebung sehr gut vorstellen, was es für mich noch "realistischer" gemacht hat. Klare Empfehlung von mir!🙂↕️
Very generous 2⭐️ at most… I was looking forward and quite excited to read this book, because it seemed so interesting, but I found it very hard to warm up to the story which felt super random and lowkey disorganised. Yes, even for a thriller/mystery storyline. The characters were annoying me so much and felt utterly insufferable to a point where I considered DNFing… The plot twists weren’t as shocking as I would have hoped and only the final one sort of got me a little confused. I’m just happy questions were answered and Gabriella’s mother got a happy end. I’m a little sad this one turned out to be such a bummer…
