Wirklich spannende Story mit viel Rache aber auch Schwächen

Was ein wilder Ritt dieses Buch war! Das Buch ist ein Retelling von Der Graf von Monte-Christo von Alexandre Dumas. Entsprechend starten wir mit Dania, die unschuldig ins Gefängnis geworfen wurde und nun versucht zu entkommen. Es geht also direkt sehr spannend los! Und es wird auch das gesamte Buch über nicht langweilig - es passiert (zu) viel. Das hätte man auch in 2-3 Bände packen können. So hat sich die an sich wirklich spannende Handlung so übereilt angefühlt, als würden nurmehr einzelne Punkte abgehakt werden. Auch dem an sich coolen Magiesystem rund um „Zahoor“, eine Art Samen einer Pflanze, der demjenigen, der ihn nimmt Djinnkräfte verleiht, wurde kaum Tiefe verliehen. Ich hatte so viele Fragen! Aufgrund dem starken Fokus auf den Plot waren die Charaktere, wenn auch grundsätzlich sympathisch, sehr eindimensional. Noor als „comedic relief“ und Wissensträgerin über das Zahoor hat nur Danias Weiterkommen gedient und durfte leider kaum eine eigene Story entwickeln. Auch unser MMC Mazin wirkte auf mich sehr flach & bis auf 1-2 Szenen konnte ich auch die Romance nicht so fühlen. Dania bekommt als Einzige mehr Tiefgang, ist aber auch 80% des Buchs sehr singulär auf Rache aus (die Wörter ‚vengeance, wrath, revenge‘ kommen locker 5-10 Mal pro Seite vor). Dabei scheut sie wirklich vor gar nichts zurück, was ich unrealistisch finde, aber trotzdem gerne gelesen habe! Insbesondere ihr Hang zu Schwertern und Kämpfen war wirklich cool gemacht. Die Entscheidung der Autorin, dass Dania und Noor alles wahnsinnig leicht zu fallen scheint (Erlernen der Magie, Mischen des Zahoors, Aufnahme in die Gesellschaft) und Ressourcen wie z.B. Geld absolut unendlich sind, führt dazu, dass einige potentiell interessante Konflikte gar nicht erst entstehen. Geht auch gar nicht, weil noch 45 andere Handlungspunkte warten. ABER: ich war gut unterhalten, habe das Buch trotz seiner Schwächen gerne und schnell gelesen und fand die Geschichte alles in allem wirklich sehr sehr cool. Mit langsamerem Pacing (hätte nie gedacht, dass ich das Mal sage), mehr Tiefgang, mehr Hindernissen und vielleicht einer Dilogie, wäre es ein Highlight gewesen!
