About the book

In Lois Lowry’s Newbery Medal–winning classic, twelve-year-old Jonas lives in a seemingly ideal world. Not until he is given his life assignment as the Receiver does he begin to understand the dark secrets behind his fragile community.Life in the community where Jonas lives is idyllic. Designated birthmothers produce newchildren, who are assigned to appropriate family units. Citizens are assigned their partners and their jobs. No one thinks to ask questions. Everyone obeys. Everyone is the same. Except Jonas. Not until he is given his life assignment as the Receiver of Memory does he begin to understand the dark, complex secrets behind his fragile community. Gradually Jonas learns that power lies in feelings. But when his own power is put to the test—when he must try to save someone he loves—he may not be ready. Is it too soon? Or too late?Told with deceptive simplicity, this is the provocative story of a boy who experiences something incredible and undertakes something impossible. In the telling it questions every value we have taken for granted and reexamines our most deeply held beliefs. The Giver has become one of the most influential novels of our time. Don't miss the powerful companion novels in Lois Lowry's Giver Quartet: Gathering Blue, Messenger, and Son.

    >>WHEN PEOPLE HAVE THE FREEDOM TO CHOOSE, THEY CHOOSE WRONG🩶🗯<<

ㅤ >>Because if you can't feel - what's the point⁉️<< Book aesthetic: 🌈❄️🐘🍼⏳️🚲💉💔 -------------⋆𐙚˚⊹‧ "The Giver" by Lois Lowry tackles an incredibly compelling subject and raises many questions that stayed with me, even after I finished reading. For that concept -a critique of society- alone, the book was worth it for me🙂‍↕️👏🏼 Unfortunately, the story itself didn't really grip me. Personally, I felt it lacked narrative momentum, despite the interesting concept the book often felt like a bit of a slog. I kept waiting for something to actually happen... and for me, that moment simply came too late🫤🫶🏼 The time jumps also kept interrupting my reading flow. While they were mostly easy to follow, they made the story unnecessarily complicated for me🫯🤚🏼 It was a particular shame that the only major plot twist didn't arrive until the very end and was resolved almost immediately. As a result, the suspense never really had a chance to build, and the finale left me feeling disappointed rather than surprised😕💬 For me, "The Giver" is a book with a brilliant premise, but one whose potential wasn't quite realized in the execution...👀🥀 -------------⋆𐙚˚⊹‧ "The Giver" von Lois Lowry behandelt ein unglaublich spannendes Thema und wirft viele Fragen auf, die mich auch nach dem Lesen noch beschäftigt haben.

Imagine a world without danger or pain. But also a world without music, color, art, or even books.

“The Giver” by Lois Lowry illustrates that world perfectly. This book illustrates a world in where there is only order and rules, where everything is the same and no one is unique or different. Can there truly be happiness without suffering or pain?

Imagine a world without danger or pain. But also a world without music, color, art, or even books.
