Über das Buch

'Creepy, funny, heartfelt, and full of fantastic characters I absolutely loved' Melissa Caruso on Nettle & Bone

Marguerite Florian is a spy with two problems. A former employer wants her dead, and one of her new bodyguards is a far too good-looking paladin with a martyr complex.

Shane is a paladin with three problems. His god is dead, his client is much too attractive for his peace of mind, and a powerful organization is trying to have them both killed.

Add in a brilliant artificer with a device that may change the world, a glittering and dangerous court, and a demon-led cult, and Shane and Marguerite will be lucky to escape with their souls intact, never mind their hearts. . .

Praise for T. Kingfisher:

'T. Kingfisher solidifies her place as natural and inevitable heir to the greats of her genre, while remaining clearly and unquestionably a unique voice in fantasy' Seanan McGuire

"Nettle & Bone brings Kingfisher's signature honesty and authenticity to a fairy tale setting: the result is refreshing, earnest but not naive, and deeply satisfying. I devoured it. This is one that's going to stay with me for a long time' Sarah Gailey, author of Magic for Liars

'A delight throughout' Louisa Morgan, author of A Secret History of Witches

'T. Kingfisher uses the bones of fairy tale to create something entirely her own, written in gloriously clear and transparent prose' Emily Tesh, author of Some Desperate Glory

'Funny, frightening, and full of heart; I loved it' Alix E. Harrow, author of The Ten Thousand Doors of January

'Charming and macabre, often both at the same time' A. K. Larkwood, author of The Unspoken Name

'Absolutely delightful and full of charm and truth' Naomi Novik, on Thornhedge

    Great Adventure and Romance

Another installment in the Saint of Steel series and it is just as great as the other ones. This time the story does not follow a mystery so much as a spy mission to a foreign court with the former Paladin Shane and the spy Marguerite - both of whom we already know - at the center of the plot. We also get to know another of the former paladins: Wren, who is very much like a younger sister to the remaining paladins. I adored this book as much as the previous ones. It was well paced and the romance between Marguerite and Shane was so sweet. I loved that we also got Wrens point of view a few times.

    New locations, old Evergreens

Of course, all the Paladin novels of Kingfisher have a very similar vibe, it is a series after all, but this one drew me in more than the second and third book. I couldn't decide between the first and Paladin's Faith I think. Stephen and Shane are kind of similar as love interests and as Paladins but the martyr complex fits them both better than Istvhan and Galen, definitely more of a coherent part of their character. Maybe I like Shane a little better, because he has a more tragic note which compliments Marguerite's self-confidence. She is a great leading lady, gracefully side-stepping the tropes that often annoy me in female main characters. All in all, it is a light, mostly sweet and sometimes spicy read and I enjoyed the demon plot and the new location. I would have liked to know a little more about the Court of Smoke and for example Lady Silver.
