As emperors, generals, and kings vie for dominance, martial sects mount bloody clashes to determine who will influence the nations’ leaders. Fallen and humbled, former sect leader Shen Qiao searches for direction in a tumultuous world. He finds an unlikely companion in the nefarious Yan Wushi.

The roguish and powerful demonic practitioner has helped Shen Qiao begin to rebuild his lost martial abilities. As the two travel and work together, the gentle Daoist master dares to imagine that the famed Demon Lord is warming to him. But all is not as it seems, and old treacheries draw fresh blood. As Shen Qiao confronts dangerous new enemies, the struggle for control of the Central Plains ignites!

Mir gefällt Meng Xi Shi's Schreibstil unheimlich gut.

The nature of the human heart

After the first one took me months to read because it was so boring, it took me a long while to even start this, but thankfully, I could finish it in a few days. So, in that regard, it was way better, but I have to say that I still don't care much about the actual story. Well, it's hard to say what that story even is. There are so many seemingly random fights happening. All these clans have beef with each other, and the emperor wants to secure his land or whatever. The main character doesn't really care, so why should I 🤷🏻‍♂️ At least this time, there weren't really any long lore drops to get through, which made the reading experience much smoother, but I was still confused who a lot of these people were. Though I also didn't care much. The only thing that interests me are the interactions of the main characters. The slow burn is done well, I just wish the story in-between would be more interesting 😅 I usually like political plots, but this is a bit all over the place. Yan Wushi alone is just the saving grace of this series. He is by far the most interesting character. I love how he talks in a seemingly polite way while saying the meanest things right to people's faces. Honesty, I even thought he wasn't evil enough, but then that one scene happened, and I was kinda excited xD Still, I believe the reason he did it was different than what he said. Not that it wasn't evil, but still. Then, the last bit with the Bixia sect was probably the most exciting part of the story for me. The fights were still a bit long, but that very last one was quite good, and the next arc sounds promising. So yeah, I am going to continue even though I am still not that invested, but I hope the slow burn is worth it. I need to know how they get together. Enemies to Lovers is just my thing xD
