Ich habe den ersten Band der The Summer-Reihe gelesen und jetzt, mit "The Summer I First Saw You", auch den fünften und letzten Teil – und das hat wunderbar funktioniert! Die Bände lassen sich problemlos unabhängig voneinander lesen, ohne dass man den Überblick verliert oder das Gefühl hat, etwas zu verpassen. Im Mittelpunkt steht eine Age-Gap-Romance – der Altersunterschied beträgt „nur“ elf Jahre, also noch im realistischen Rahmen, aber genau groß genug, um für eine spürbare Dynamik zwischen den Figuren zu sorgen. Ich liebe Age Gap, vor allem, wenn sie nicht übertrieben wirkt – und genau das ist hier der Fall. Es wird nie unangenehm oder klischeehaft, sondern bleibt glaubwürdig und emotional nachvollziehbar. Die Spannung zwischen den beiden Hauptfiguren ist von Anfang an greifbar – da baut sich etwas auf, das man kaum erwarten kann, sich endlich entlädt. Tension, die sich zu Funken entwickelt, die man einfach brennen sehen will. Und ja: es wird spicy, ohne dabei den emotionalen Tiefgang zu verlieren. Einziger Kritikpunkt für mich war das Ende, das mir ein bisschen zu abrupt kam. Nach all dem sorgfältigen Aufbau hätte ich mir einen etwas runderen Abschluss gewünscht – mehr Raum, um durchzuatmen und wirklich anzukommen.
This might be my favorite one in this series. (yes I’m aware I said this about each book so far. But this time I mean it!) I love Daisy and Harrison so much, I had the absolute best time reading about them (lot of laughing and many tears). This one was less angsty than the others in this series, but equally as amazing! I fear (in the best way possible) this woman is incapable of writing bad books. read this in one go because I was incapable of taking a break from Elizabeth O‘Roark’s addictive writing style. 10/10, recommend and would do again. (And now I’m just supposed to move on and accept this series is over?? I’ll miss the surfer boys and their even cooler girlfriends.…and the emotional pain and many many tears every single book made me cry) 5
