Reveals over reveals

This volume was like one reveal/backstory/plottwist after the next. We got so much information! Therefore, the volume wasn't as soul-shattering as the last one, but there were also a lot of emotional moments, just mainly in the past 👀 The first big reveal had me bamboozled. I was suspecting that there was something going on with that character, but not like this! The other big reveal was totally unexpected, and at first, I didn't know what to think about it, but the more we learned about it, the more I thought it fit well with the story and its themes. I like that one leading topic is what it means to be evil. In the whole series, there is discourse about redemption, self-sacrifice for the greater good, kindness, justice, and evil. Is someone good or bad from the beginning? How does someone "become" evil? What is true justice? When is murder/revenge justified? These are some questions that arise throughout the story, and it's really interesting to contemplate their answers. Your perspective might also change when more context is revealed. There are a lot of very sad backstories in this series 🥲 I really liked that we saw even more of the past. It's amazing how there can be so much new information constantly. I am always impressed at the length of the series and the connection of everything (so much made sense now)! We still don't know everything, and there will be 3 more volumes. Really excited for the next one, as always 🥰 Especially now that we know so much more, I am thrilled to see how that information is used.

I hated this (in a positive and negative way)

Spoiler warning for the entire review. Over the course of seven volumes, we are fed with great, suspenseful mysteries, the losses, joys, misunderstandings and regrets of two lifetimes, and thrown into the inferno of an equally enthralling relationship. Many of the questions raised in the previous volumes are finally answered and cleared up in volume 8. Once the veil was lifted and the root of our collective pain was revealed, I just wanted to let it fall back down again. Because, although it saddened and shocked me to a degree, this turn of events also disappointed me slightly. Mo Ran was the character I was most critical of in the beginning of the story, for obvious reasons. I found myself really liking his development over the past volumes, even if it wasn't always perfect in my eyes. Yet finally seeing why Mo Ran turned out to be the way he was in his past life felt like a slap in the face. It seemed to me like Taxian-Jun was being washed down to a tragic little puddle of mysery who can't help that he turned out the way he did and did all those terrible things. The explanation from Meatbun that these were nevertheless his own impulses was not enough of an indicator for me that he should not be held accountable for these deeds. It's walking on a fine line between "well he can't really be blamed for it" and "he still was doing pretty terrible things though, of course". It's as if Meatbun wants to say, "I'm not claiming he's innocent, but look at him, the poor guy." Both his journey to becoming a tyrant and his redemption arc were the core of the story for me, so I found it somewhat uncreative that everything was pretty much dismissed with a stamp of "um-uh-because-evil-magic-flower", even if a great mastermind was indicated to be behind everything early on and the idea of multiple universes and their collision is fundamentally an interesting concept that offers a lot of creative potential. I just can't help but think about the possibility of a route where Mo Ran has a solid reason for all of his feelings of anger and hatred becoming the foundation on which the detested yet pitiable Taxian-Jun walked, yet is still lovable due to his redemption arc. Because that's what he evolved into over the past seven volumes, which convinces me a route like that could've worked out. Still, it was a enjoyable volume for the most part and I want to see how this story ends. 2ha has many aspects that are hard to digest, and reading six volumes in a row in a short period of time definitely upset my stomach. It's only after four months that I feel completely ready to formulate my review in a more sophisticated way and tackle the last volumes. So, my recommendation for the series: take it easy, you’ve got time. No need to make yourself suffer more than the author already does lol.

10/10

This volume was hella good. But I‘m kinda scared of how Mo ran and Chu Wanning relationship changes. Chu Wanning has regained his memorys and spends Most of the volume with Taxian-jun and it‘s pretty obvious that he also loves him. I didn‘t thing I would love Mo ran as much as I do but here we are. I love him so much 🥹 Also I was in fact Not wrong about Shi Mei so uhm 🫡
