I just finished The Haunting of William Thorne, and I’m honestly wrecked. This book completely tore me apart in the best (and worst) possible way. Ben Alderson delivered a story that was hauntingly beautiful, emotionally devastating, and utterly unforgettable. From the very beginning, I was hooked—but nothing could have prepared me for the rollercoaster this story would take me on. The plot twists? Absolutely wild. Just when I thought I knew where things were going, the story turned everything upside down. It kept me constantly on edge, questioning everyone and everything. And that ending. I don’t even have the words. It left me stunned, raw, and aching. It was powerful, tragic, and yet somehow still so fitting. I genuinely had to just sit in silence afterwards and process what I had just read. This book is more than just a supernatural story—it's about grief, trauma, love, and the ghosts (both literal and metaphorical) that we carry with us. William’s journey was painful and beautiful, and I felt every single moment with him. If you’re looking for a queer gothic tale that will haunt you long after the final page, The Haunting of William Thorne is it. Just... be ready. Emotionally. Because it hurts. And it’s so worth it.

The haunting of William Thorn war mein zweiter "Spooky Read" für die Saison. Ehrlich gesagt habe ich nicht mehr so arg viel erwartet. Der erste hoch gelobte Spooky Read war gut, aber ich konnte all die sich überschlagenden Bewertungen nicht verstehen. Ben Alderson hat aber genau das geschafft, er hatte allen Empfehlungen, alle Ehre gemacht. Ich hab das Buch in einer Leseflaute in die Hand genommen und muss sagen, dass es mir anfangs nicht so leicht gefallen ist. Ich habe immer gern gelesen, aber zwangsweise muss man ja auch mal ein Buch aus der Hand legen und dann war es schwer zurück zu finden. Ich schiebe die Schuld hier aber mehr auf meinen Zustand. Denn Tatsächlich ist es wirklich gut geschrieben. Der Autor schafft fantastische Bilder und verwendet Gleichnisse die der Geschichte eine schöne Tiefe geben. Die Erzählung ist ein bisschen langwierig, aber es passieren immer wieder einzelnen Situationen die sehr spannungsgeladen und auf wühlend sind. Auch wenn es zwischendurch etwas zieht, ist alles sehr wichtig. Die letzten Kapitel knallen dann schlicht und ergreifend richtig rein. Ich bin eigentlich nicht soooo arg nah am Wasser gebaut was Bücher angeht. Aber dieses Finale hat mich wirklich mitgenommen, ich habe geheult und zwar Rotz und Wasser. Ich ziehe nur einen halben Punkt ab, weil es etwas langatmig war(aber nicht unwichtig!) und dass meiner Leseflaute vermutlich nicht weiter zuträglich war. Ansonsten 🤌🏻
