George Orwell wurde 1903 in Motihari/ Bengalen als Sohn eines britischen Kolonialbeamten geboren. Er besuchte Privatschulen in England, diente in der burmesischen Imperial Police, arbeitete als Lehrer und Buchhandelsgehilfe, machte als Vagabund in Südengland und Paris Erfahrungen, kämpfte auf republikanischer Seite im Spanischen Bürgerkrieg und arbeitete als freier Schriftsteller und Journalist. Neben seinen Welterfolgen »Farm der Tiere« und »1984« ist er durch zahllose politische wie literarische Essays bekannt geworden. Er starb 1950 in London.

A classic for a reason. It is mind-blowing to me how something that was written almost 80 years ago still has relevance today. The book is structured in three parts. In part one, the reader is introduced to the oppressive totalitarian regime of Oceania, part two explores Winston's act of rebellion and the final part reveals the consequences of that rebellion. Overall, the novel offers a haunting critique of blindly following ideology and surrendering one's ability to question authority, ultimately showing how easily individualism can be destroyed. At times descriptions were a bit lengthy which hindered me from fully immersing myself in the story. Also, to me personally, the pacing occasionally felt slow, which reduced the tension of the narrative and made reading strenuous. Nevertheless, its themes remain highly relevant in today’s world, making it a thought-provoking and powerful read.
3.75/5⭐️ Den Schreibstil fand ich sehr angenehm und das Thema der Geschichte ist wahnsinnig wichtig. Die Umsetzung hat mir auch gut gefallen. Das Ende war sehr vorhersehbar und es war aber dennoch etwas verwirrend. Manche Dinge haben sich auch immer wieder Wiederholt. Dennoch mochte ich es und verstehe warum es so ein wichtiges Werk ist.
