Her city is under siege.

The zombies are coming back.

And all Nona wants is a birthday party.

In many ways, Nona is like other people. She lives with her family, has a job at her local school, and loves walks on the beach and meeting new dogs. But Nona's not like other people. Six months ago she woke up in a stranger's body, and she's afraid she might have to give it back.

The whole city is falling to pieces. A monstrous blue sphere hangs on the horizon, ready to tear the planet apart. Blood of Eden forces have surrounded the last Cohort facility and wait for the Emperor Undying to come calling. Their leaders want Nona to be the weapon that will save them from the Nine Houses. Nona would prefer to live an ordinary life with the people she loves, with Pyrrha and Camilla and Palamedes, but she also knows that nothing lasts forever.

And each night, Nona dreams of a woman with a skull-painted face...

Okay, hold on. You saw the 4 stars I awarded this beautiful clusterf*ck and probably thought: wow, this weird person actually liked and understood what he was reading. No, he did not. In fact, he is absolutely confused and has no idea what in the necromancing hell is going on. However it was a very enjoyable read. Does that make little sense to you? WELL NEITHER DOES THE BOOK! I really really really adore Tamsyn Muirs writing and style and cant wait for volume 4 to come out, but I also really really wish that she would finally relieve my poor brain of its many twists and explain what is actually happening. I felt mostly thrown from scene to scene without much of an explanation, having to gather the clues myself and 'understand' it on my own. It often felt like a book waaay smarter than me, and maybe it is like that. Or maybe Tamsyn Muir just really enjoys watching her readers get a sore forehead from frowning in confusion so much. However, we learn so much more about our dear god John and his backstory, how the world became what it is today ( sort of ), and the big mysterious tomb finally gets some screentime again. To put this in a very deformed and weird nutshell, I really enjoyed this one, but it also made me question my IQ. You should read it....

"life is too short and love is too long."

I have honestly no idea how to feel about this. On the one hand, I enjoyed the small domestic bliss moments, but it is still such a shift from Gideon and Harrow, both in tone and content.

"You will love Nona, and Nona loves you" never was something truer than thatI feel like this book wasn't as confusing as the the first two but still confusing enough, what makes it my favorite one in the series so far
