Von Anfang an war man in der Story drin, vor allem wegen dem schönen Setting, nämlich den Bällen. Man kann die Gefühle und Entscheidungen der beiden Charaktere sehr sehr gut nachvollziehen. Das hat mir sehr geholfen, denn normalerweise mag ich forbidden Love nicht so, aber hier hat es mir sehr sehr gut gefallen. Die beiden Charaktere sind so süß zusammen und ich fände, dass es die perfekte Mischung zwischen körperliche und emotionaler Anziehung war. Während des Lesens habe darüber nachgedacht, wer im nächsten Teil die Hauptcharaktere sein können und es waren genau die, die ich wollte. Deswegen bin ich sooo gespannt auf den nächsten Teil!

So yes, it is basically a gay bridgerton story and I am here for it. I love the Bridgerton vibe, the friends to lovers trope, the parents trap theme and tje fact that everything comes together in an LGBTQAI+ novel. And on top of this, we get taylor swift references. So yes, I am excited for the second book this summer.
42% DNF I really tried to like this but the plot is so extremly predictable. I found myself laughing at one thing, otherwise I was bored for over 100 pages. They do the same thing over and over, we barely have anything going on. Also, Beth and Gwen, these names drive me crazy. As a fast reader, names with both four letters and only an E in them gets super confusing super fast. It took me 30 pages to even understand whose who. edit: now that my friend has spoiled me. bro STEPSISTER LOVERS? that poor sibling theyre gonna have im crying its wrong in so many ways i hate that trope also beth and gwen felt so bland

Alban nimmt uns mit auf eine Reise durch die Ballsaison des Jahres 1857, die so chaotisch und herzerwärmend ist, dass man das Buch nicht mehr aus der Hand legen möchte. Gwen ist eindeutig die Tochter ihres Vaters – ein freier Geist, der Fechtduelle mit ihrem Papa mehr schätzt als den neuesten Klatsch der Ballsaison. Ihr Motto scheint zu sein: „Warum einen Mann suchen, wenn man sich auch einfach einen über den Durst trinken 🍷 und ein paar Runden im Wald laufen 🌳 kann?“ Beth hingegen, die auf der Suche nach einem Ehemann ist, würde am liebsten ein Baumhaus bauen 🏡, anstatt in steife Ballkleider gezwängt zu werden. Dass Beth und Gwen dachten, ihre engsten Vertrauten würden nicht merken, was bei den beiden abgeht, ist urkomisch 😂. Es stellt sich heraus, dass sie sich viel früher hätten anvertrauen und nach Hilfe fragen sollen – besonders wenn es darum geht, ihre Eltern zu verkuppeln. Die Nebencharaktere, die um ihre Liebesaffäre herumschwirren, bieten eine Quelle ständigen Gelächters 🤣. Das skurrilste Erlebnis? Das rein und raus aus den Ballkleidern 👗. Es ist eine sportliche Leistung für sich, die einer olympischen Disziplin gleicht 🥇. Jedes Mal, wenn unsere Heldinnen sich in ihre opulenten Gewänder zwängen oder befreien müssen, könnte man meinen, sie bereiten sich auf eine Expedition in die Arktis vor 🥶. Wenn man Gwen nach einem Rat fragen würde, würde sie wohl jeder jungen Frau in der viktorianischen Gesellschaft den Tipp geben: „Gib nicht auf und vertrau den Menschen, die du liebst und die dich lieben. Ein tolles Buch mit starken Frauen und tiefgründigem, politischem Hintergrund! Die einzige Kritik die ich habe, ist dass die Queerness der beiden eher wenig behandelt & besprochen wurde. Einerseits schön eine halbwegs “heile Welt” zu sehen, andererseits hätten ein paar längere, ernstere Dialoge über ihre Beziehung in dieser Zeit der Geschichte nicht geschadet. Das Buch ist eine super easy read & macht unglaublich Lust auf den zweiten Teil, der im Sommer erscheint :))
I was so excited to read this book. Thriving to read as many queer books as possible. But I abandoned the book by page 18. Reason being that the book is supposed to be playing in the same decade as Bridgerton. But there were so many factual and general mistakes in regards to the century it is supposedly playing in. Which is so sad. But the way the characters talk to each other just pulled me out of the story every time. Maybe I will try to read it again in the future, and see if my point still stands.
Richtig richtig toll war das!!🥹 Erst kurz gedauert bis die Story so richtig interessant wurde. Aber dann war es echt gut und voller ups and downs. Ich fand wirklich SO viele Charaktere so toll und sie sind alle so offen und verständnisvoll miteinander umgegangen. So Bridgerton vibes hab ich auch voll gefeiert. Die Sprache hat das auch total wiedergegeben, sehr cool zu lesen! Das Ende war so sehr Happy End mäßig, also schon unrealistisch, aber das hat mich absolut nicht gestört. Ich hab mich gefreut dass die beiden ein tolles Leben zusammen haben können hihi. PS habe die Lovestory der Eltern basically genau so dolle geliebt wie die von Beth und Gwen
Das Buch ist einfach das Vorzeige Buch einen queeren Lovestory🤩- so wie man sie sich vorstellt -> man muss sich vor der Gesellschaft verstecken hat aber zu große Gefühle füreinander
Beth und Gwens Lovestory war einfach so traurig aber auch so schön zugleich… Ich meine wie schlimm muss es sein seine Liebe nicht sehen zu dürfen wegen homophoben Regeln die zur Zeit des 18ten Jahrhunderts noch stark in das Leben der Betroffen eingriffen, Doch Ende gut alles Gut würde ich in dem Fall der beiden sagen, dass es doch noch funktioniert hat man zwar schon sagen können, doch es war trotzdem schön die Bestätigung am Ende zu haben, und dann auch noch die Mutter von Beth Lady Demeroven und der Vater von Gwen Lord Havenfort die letztendlich auch ihr Happy End bekamen. Die zwei waren nämlich auch super tolle Charaktere. Eltern die ihre Töchter unterstützen egal was passiert😍 Das Buch hatte auch so einen tollen Bridgerton Vibe weshalb es mir noch mehr gefallen hat. Unbedingt eine Leseempfehlung für alle die Quere Geschichten lieben🤓
I am still swooning and falling head over heels for the characters. There are so many lovely comfort characters in this sapphic romance novel.
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗹𝗼𝘁 📝 Basically the plot starts off with Beth wanting to find a husband as a debutante in the season to secure her family's wealth. However as she meets Gwen, who has no intention of ever finding a husband, they immediatly click and soon realize they have feelings for one another. Now their goal is to play matchmaking between their parents, they once were in love and might be able to fall for one another once again. I felt this plot was refreshing and the matchmaking with the parents was a difference to the usual "lets find the perfect husband for me" plot that I sometimes see in regency romances. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 👥 The characters were so lovable and sweet. I always love when sapphic romances have the found family trope. There was a healthy amount of drama and the few challenging characters. Especially Gwen, Beth and their parents, cousins and friends were so sweet to read and felt like a hug. 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝘆𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗰𝘀 💭 The Chemistry between Gwen and Beth was spectacular and their minds are sometimes so quick and fun. They matched really well and you could feel their feelings for one another. 𝗪𝗵𝘆 4.5 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘀? ⭐ I really enjoyed this book but it took me a while to get into. Sadly I also felt that sometimes the ideas of Gwen and Beth were a bit silly and they annoyed me a bit. However I loved this book so much and I couldn't rate it any lower than a 4.5 because it made me giggle, swoon and cry so beautifully. My favorite quote: "She should take her happinesses as she can, for she knows they'll be forever fleeting. But at least she'll have them."

I've been reading a lot of historical romance lately and this is probably my favorite one so far. The characters actually feel relatable and not just like the author looked at a history book once and had to force the characters into that world. Also loved all the pretty dress details and would love to see a movie or a show about this book and maybe the upcoming sequel.
Eine wunderschöne queere Liebesgeschichte mit einer charmanten Bridgerton-ähnlichen Atmosphäre. Die Charaktere waren lebendig und gut ausgearbeitet, besonders Gwen mochte ich sehr. Die Liebesgeschichte zwischen ihr und Beth fügte sich perfekt in das historische Setting ein und hatte einige echte Swoon-Momente. Kleine Kritikpunkte waren die teils zu moderne Sprache sowie einige Nebencharaktere, die schwer auseinanderzuhalten waren. Der Epilog hat den zweiten Teil bereits gut vorbereitet – den werde ich definitiv lesen!
