Der dritte Band hat mich wohl von allen am meisten berührt. Die Dogs, inzwischen mehr oder weniger in alle Winde zerstreut, versuchen, zwischen Kriegen und der Pest ein Leben für sich aufzubauen. Ob am Hofe oder in irgendeinem englischen Dorf. Doch wir sehen, wie schwer das Leben für die Menschen war, wie schnell der soziale Abstieg, ob verschuldet oder nicht, drohte. Und dann gibt es wieder Krieg ... Diesmal mit Kastilien (allein, weil die Tochter des Königs auf ihrer Reise in Bordeaux der Pest zum Opfer fiel und so keine Heirat stattfinden konnte, die Frieden geschaffen hätte). Joan von Kent, die spätere Königin von England, bekommt ebenfalls viel Raum im Geschehen. Und wenn sie nur ansatzweise so ähnlich war wie dargestellt, dann ... Ich habe auf jeden Fall einige saftige neue englische Flüche von ihr gelernt. Am Ende des Hörbuchs nimmt der Autor und Historiker nochmals selbst Stellung zum Geschehen, um die verwickelten politischen Entwicklungen für uns Hörer etwas verständlicher zu machen.
