Description

From the bestselling author of About a Boy, A Long Way Down and Dickens and Prince, a wise and hilarious novel about love, heartbreak, and rock and roll.

“I've always loved Nick Hornby, and the way he writes characters and the way he thinks. It's funny and heartbreaking all at the same time.”—Zoë Kravitz

Rob is a pop music junkie who runs his own semi-failing record store. His girlfriend, Laura, has just left him for the guy upstairs, and Rob is both miserable and relieved. After all, could he have spent his life with someone who has a bad record collection? Rob seeks refuge in the company of the offbeat clerks at his store, who endlessly review their top five films; top five Elvis Costello songs; top five episodes of Cheers.

Rob tries dating a singer, but maybe it’s just that he’s always wanted to sleep with someone who has a record contract. Then he sees Laura again. And Rob begins to think that life with kids, marriage, barbecues, and soft rock CDs might not be so bad.

Mittelmäßig gealtert, der Bedarf an Perspektiven egozentrischer, männlicher Mittdreißiger ist bei mir aber vielleicht auch einfach gedeckt.

1

The only good thing about this book is that it shows you what kind of person NOT to be.

Nerd in Midlife-Crisis meets the big Love. Oder auch nicht?

1

Five reasons why this book sucks: 1. Lists 2. Douchebag protagonist 3. Lists 4. Too much self-pity and selfishness in too many monologues 5. Lists

3

Ein langweiliges Buch mit nervigen Hauptcharakter. Schade!

2

Well, I guess Nick and me aren't becoming friends in this live anymore.

4

A quick, uplifting read that made me feel good. This book reminded me about my own 'music nerd phase', when life was more carefree. And I liked that nostalgia. Would read again.

It’s not too bad you know, maybe a change of scenery in books but apart from the light entertainment i just didn’t like any of the characters which seemed pretty annoying… it’s kinda sad tho that I didn’t like it as much

1

It was mostly self pity and not as funny as intended. I feel sorry about the end....

4

Ein sehr leicht zu lesenes Buch mit vielen witzigen Stellen. Die Story ist nichts weltbewegenes, eher Urlaubslektüre.

Tolles Buch. Tolle Charaktere. Musik
