Ganz ok - nichts besonderes!
Nach vielen Jahren hab ich mir endlich diese SUB Leiche vorgenommen und muss sagen, dass ich froh bin, sie nun endlich beiseite legen zu können. Irgendwie bin ich mit dem Buch nicht warm geworden. Obwohl der Klappentext echt spannend klang, um so enttäuschter war ich vom Buch am Ende. Ich brauchte locker 100-150 Seiten um mal rein zu kommen. Der ständige Personen/Persepektivewechsel sowie die vielen Zeitsprünge waren in diesem Buch unvorteilhaft und schlussendlich auch etwas verwirrend. Plot/Wendung ganz komisch. Viele Passagen zogen sich - hätte man kürzer zusammenfassen können. Wollte das Buch dann einfach nur ganz schnell beenden. Gibt viel bessere. Vielleicht ist das Buch auf englisch auch besser?
Der Klappentext hat mich direkt neugierig gemacht. Eine Frau hat ein dunkles Geheimnis, von dem niemand etwas weiß und plötzlich bekommt sie ein Buch, in dem ihre Geschichte niedergeschrieben wurde. Wie kann das sein? Und ist alles genauso, wie im Buch beschrieben oder doch ganz anders? Die Erzählperspektive wechselt zwischen der von Catherine und der von Stephen. Und so entsteht nach und nach die wirkliche Geschichte mit einigen unerwarteten Wendungen. Phasenweise etwas langatmig, aber doch so spannend, dass ich unbedingt wissen wollte, wie sich die Geschichte tatsächlich begeben hat.
Ich hab mich am Anfang mit diesem Buch wirklich schwer getan. Die Zeitsprünge, die Wechsel zwischen den Charakteren, die verschiedenen Erzählperspektiven haben mich mehr als nur verwirrt. Auch kam ich nicht in die Geschichte rein.
Die Hauptcharaktere fand ich sehr schwierig und wenig sympathisch. Vor allem Catherine um die es hauptsächlich geht, war mir sehr zu wider. Die Spannung baute sich für mich auf als ich ungefähr ein Viertel des Buches gelesen hatte. Und am Ende musste ich wissen wie es ausgeht. Die Wendungen, die Komplexität des Buches haben mich dann in den Bann gezogen. Dieser Debütroman der englischen Schriftstellerin hat es in sich und würde ich jedem empfehlen. Wer gerne überrascht werden möchte, sollte sich dies mal geben. Wenn es auch am Anfang vielleicht den Anschein macht es würde sich nicht lohnen. Es lohnt sich auf alle Fälle. Klasse Buch.
Im not to sure what to think about this book. There are 2 families. One is Nancy, Stephen and Jonathan. The other is Catherine, Robert and Nicholas. The story goes along the lines of Catherine and Jonathan met in Spain and started an affair. While Catherine fell asleep on the beach her son Nicholas drifts out to see and Jonathan jumps in to save him but his dies after getting into difficulty and drowns. Catherine pretends she doesnt know him and returns to her life in England the next day and never talks about him, it her secret. Until 20 years later her and Robert have just moved house and she finds a book on her bedside table, not sure where its come from and starts to read it and realises its about her. Its her story. Where did it come from? Who wrote it? How did someone find out this secret and why are they out to destroy her life as it is and so the story continues. Ill be honest by page 100 I was about to give up. I was starting to get bored, it just seemed to be going on forever and nothing really was happening. So I decided one more chapter and if it was still the same, I was putting it down and giving it back to the library. I'm glad I stuck. The story just seemed to explode. It got really good. I see the first half of the book was the filler. All the details that you needed to know and were glad of by the end your whole perception of the whole book changed. Ive actually just put it down and during today, Ive felt sad, giggled a couple of times, been horrified and a felt a little sick. Yeah, pretty heavy feelings for a Sunday afternoon! Id honestly recommend giving this a go. Ive gave it the 4 stars because of the start but it redeemed itself by the end. Would I say it was as good as Girl On the Train? No. That had me hooked from the very first page but I will say you will enjoy it if you liked GOTT. Good plot twist, characters were a tad plain, but believable.
