Detective Kosuke Kindaichi arrives on the remote Gokumon Island bearing tragic news--the son of one of the island's most important families has died, on a troop transport ship bringing him back home after the Second World War. But Kindaichi has not come merely as a messenger--with his last words, the dying man warned that his three step-sisters' lives would now be in danger. The scruffy detective is determined to get to the bottom of this mysterious prophesy, and to protect the three women if he can.
As Kindaichi attempts to unravel the island's secrets, a series of gruesome murders begins. He investigates, but soon finds himself in mortal danger from both the unknown killer and the clannish locals, who resent this outsider meddling in their affairs.

Kosuke Kindaichis‘ second case (and No. 4 on my list). In this book we get a very personal case for the detective. One he was commissioned to solve or even prohibit from happening by his dying war buddy. On the way home from the lost battles and devastation of the 2nd World War, Kosuke promises to his friend to visit his families estate and prevent murder. The friend, heir to a large fishing empire, dies on the way home, leaving a letter for the detective and his last words: „My three sisters will be murdered. (…) Gokumon Island… please go there. In my place. My three sisters… My cousin… my cousin—“ (Quote from the book) The story is set on a gloomy island off the shore of Japan by the name of Gokumon, which means Hells Gate and for a long time was the home of pirates and prisoners. Now it is home to family feuds, mad men and a murderer. So, if you think I spoiled the story for you, think again. The ways the victims are killed… How past and present interplay in this case and who planned and did it all, you still have to find out. Happy guessing
Das war mittlerweile das dritte Buch aus der Reihe und dieses Mal bin ich am Anfang nicht wirklich warm geworden mit der Geschichte. Die Charaktere, das Setting und die Geschwindigkeit im der die Verbrechen verübt wurden hatte am Anfang nicht so hingehauen, aber nach einer Weile ging es dann wieder richtig gut. Dann würde es wieder richtig spannend und man hat wieder angefangen mit zu rätseln, nur um Festzustellen, dass man doch nicht richtig liegt. Ich bin auf jeden Fall sehr gespannt auf die nächsten Bücher aus der Reihe und kann die Bücher für jeden "klassischen" Krimi Fan empfehlen.
