*mild spoilers for red queen* That was honestly so boring. The story about Coriane? Incredibly boring. Even knowing that she dies this could have been a little more interesting, there could have been a little more depth to her feelings. We know she was sad but all of her character or her emotions was just flat. There was potential but nothing really happened or was said. The story about Farley - wtf. Are we talking about the same Farley as in the books? Those were two different people. Completely different. It’s not a problem or a bad thing if the badass characters aren’t as confident as they want to appear/appear but this? Those weren’t different aspects of her character, nope. Two completely different people. All of the orders and message things were so infuriating to read. All those [redacted] and code names and names of places *without giving us a card* were just incredibly confusing and still very very boring. The only thing that kept this book from 0,5 stars? Shade. Mare‘s brother. It was nice to see him from Farleys perspective and how he helped and came to be a part of the scarlet guard. He is the only reason this book got 1,5 stars. Those novellas are completely unnecessary and very boring tbh. I would definitely advise everyone to just skip them.

Cruel Crown consists of two novellas: Queen Song and Steel Scars. Neither one interested me. I think Queen Song was better than Steel Scars but it still was pretty trivial. Steel Scars could've more potential but the story was just meh. Not enough action. Weird storytelling. If you're interested in the backstory of Cal's mom than give Queen Song a go (even though it's very superficial) and if you'd like to know more about Farley than read Steel Scars (even though the only good element was Shade).

2/5 Steel Scars 5/5 Queen Song
