Blumen der Nacht

Eine wirklich gute, düstere und herzzerreißende Geschichte. Ich hatte das Buch schnell durch und bin gespannt auf den nächsten Teil!

Eine von meinen Lieblingsgeschichten. Auch wenn sie sehr düster und traurig ist.

Auf Empfehlung gelesen und obwohl ich etwas skeptisch war, wurde ich nicht enttäuscht! Der Schreibstil ist angenehm und leicht zu lesen, dadurch kam ich schnell voran. Einige Passagen waren mir etwas zu langatmig beschrieben. Die Story selbst fand ich jedoch wirklich gut und interessant. Ich bin gespannt was der zweite Teil parat hält.

Absolut liebenswerter, spannender Klassiker

4 Geschwister. Von der Außenwelt abgeschottet und nahezu vergessen von ihrer Mutter. Cathy, Chris und die kleinen Zwillinge Carrie und Cory leben im Halbdunklen eines Dachbodens… Das Buch ist echt von Anfang bis Ende spannend und hat sich zu einem meiner Lieblingsbücher entwickelt. Nicht nur weil es spannend, sondern auch einfach herzzerreißend ist.

Keine leichte Kost und dennoch konnte mich (damals mit 12 Jahren) die tragische Geschichte der Dollganger Geschwister fesseln können. Das Buch hat, insbesondere im Hinblick auf die Charaktere, sehr sehr viele Emotionen hervorgerufen, angefangen von Mitgefühl bis hin zu Zorn und Hass.

Solch ein Buch als Mutter zu lesen ist eine Herausforderung! Der Schreibstil war tatsächlich sehr gut, die Story war gut aber teilweise war es etwas zäh. Mit 100 Seiten weniger, hätte es den gleichen Inhalt gehabt. Trotz allem hat es mir gefallen, die weiteren Teile werde ich jedoch nicht lesen…

I can't believe this book is written in the 70's. I liked listening to it a lot. I was both curious and anxious to see where this book would lead to.

The love child of Freud and "Fall of the House of Usher". While the writing sometimes seems like straight from a soap (children and teenager really do not talk that way) and I understand the controversiality around the book, I think it is one of the best horror/gothic novels I've ever read. 1. It has the ultimate ick-factor. From the incest to the animal abuse, it just makes you feel wrong and sends shivers down your spine. Though I wonder how this was published in the 80s :-D 2. The portrayal of family live. Honestly, I could ramble on for pages just how interesting the family's relations are. The book offers a lot of topics about motherhood and child abuse and even if it is fictions (thank god) it makes you think about fundamental questions like what life in solitude would do to one and what a good mother even us and does. I also love the aspect about family fate that reminded me of Poe's works. The Foxworths can't outrun their fate, or so it seems. The only thing I do not like about this it that it developed into a series - I think it dims the charm.
