About the book

New York Times bestselling author Ruth Ware proves that she is the “new Agatha Christie” (Air Mail) with this adrenaline-fueled thriller about a woman in a race to clear her name and find her husband’s murderer. Hired by companies to break into buildings and hack security systems, Jack and her husband, Gabe, are the best penetration specialists in the business. But after a routine assignment goes horribly wrong, Jack arrives home to find her husband dead. To add to her despair, the police are closing in on their suspect—her. Suddenly on the run and quickly running out of options, Jack must decide who she can trust as she circles closer to the real killer in this unputdownable and heart-pounding mystery that combines Mr. and Mrs. Smith with The Fugitive from an author whose “propulsive prose keeps readers on the hook and refuses to let anyone off until all has been revealed” (Shelf Awareness).

I barely made it through the last pages it was such a drag

right off the bat, it was pretty cool. I liked the introduction to this story. But then it failed to keep the tension. Incredibly repetitive. How many times do you want to go on about the same thought process yet not gaining any insights? The description of Jacks (protagonist) physical state is so redundant and often even reheats the same words over and over again. Also, her paranoia while being on the run makes sense but wasn't translated to the reader very well. It seemed more like unnecessary skittishness rather than reasonable spinechill. I would have loved to get a couple of chapters from the polices POV... to make it a real cat and mouse game. Unfortunately, as is, Jack seems like a fugitive who is out of her depth and gets out of sticky situations through dumb luck. And the epilogue I could have done without. I hate it when a book is all pain and struggle and blood and then throws a cheeseball at you on the last two pages.
