Don‘t let him in unless you‘re ready to risk everything…
When Nina starts dating an old friend of her late husband who has recently appeared after years of silence, her grown-up daughter, Ash, becomes suspicious. Nick is charming but makes himself a little too comfortable in their lives. After some digging around, Ash discovers other women who seem to have known Nick. For example, Martha, a flower shop owner whose husband has repeatedly disappeared for days, claiming to be on business trips. It’s no secret that I love Lisa Jewell’s books! They’re not thrillers in the traditional sense, but I adore the tension she creates simply by weaving together the lives of seemingly ordinary people, the kind who could easily be your or my neighbours. At first, the lives of these women don’t appear to ever overlap, but piece by piece the threads start to intertwine. The writing style was gripping as always, and since I, as the reader, was always one step ahead in piecing everything together, there was a constant pull to keep turning the pages until the (unfortunately slightly weak, but that’s my only criticism!) finale. Well done! Definitely one of the best books by this author.
