Behold the Dreamers

das erleben wir, wenn wir neni und jende bzw clark und cindy in dieser geschichte folgen. eine tragische geschichte zwischen zwei welten mit einem outcome: ein zerstörter traum. zu anfangs mochte ich unsere story sehr, emotionen und krisen führen die familien zusammen, über zeit entwickeln sich unsere figuren aber auf komische weise. ähnlich verhält sich auch das pacing, irgendwann fühlt es sich an als stecke man im treibsand und das hat mir einfach gar nicht zugesagt. unsere figuren werden plötzlich emotional unerreichbar und die story macht ab ca 2 dritteln wirklich keinen spaß mehr, sehr schade! die message gegen ende aber ist wirklich wichtig- ich werde das buch auch genau deswegen weiter empfehlen!!

as someone who has never im-/emigrated anywhere i’m not fit to judge about accuracy of feeling or procedures but i just finished this book this morning and i remember feeling torn between the dreams of the two main characters, being baffled by their emotional and physical journey and generally just really moved. don’t know who (specifically) i’d recommend this to, but if YOU asked me if it’s worth the read i would say yes. Ps 1) content warning for physical abuse (just once but i really didn’t like it) 2) i would love to know what happened after the end of the novel 3 #TeamNeni all the wayyy
