Captive Prince Short Story Collection
An addition to the trilogy that everyone should read. Especially "The Summer Palace," which is the epilog to the story, which isn't complete without it, in my opinion. This collection includes 4 short stories, and I will talk about them in the chronological order in which they could be read following the main story (which is a different order than they are in the book). You can read them in any order after you finish the trilogy, but you could also read them in between volumes. 》Pet《 This takes place during volume one, so it's best to be read after it. It follows Ancel, the pet of a lord we meet at the palace. We get to know his story, how he went from a brothel to attending court and what it is to be a pet. This is the longest story and it was really interesting. There is also one overlapping scene from volume one that we get from Ancels perspective. He might seem a bit shallow and mean, but that's understandable in his position. He had to become a pet to survive and now is trying to make the best of his situation, getting the most powerful bidder possible. I would love to have a continuation of this. I really want to know how his relationship with Berenger progresses 🤭 》Green but for a season《 A story about Jord and the rest of the Prince's Guard. It takes place in volume two (so, it should be read after), with parts from before the main story, when Laurent was 15 and just assembling his guard. Those had my favorite scenes 🤭 We get to see why they are so loyal to him and how he is protecting them. In the "present," we also get more about Aimeric and how their thing started. Bittersweet. 》The Summer Palace《 The epilog, which takes place a few weeks/months after the third volume. They are basically taking a little vacation in the summer palace in Akielos. It's important for them to also have some long overdue conversations about everything that has happened between them and what was before. Just things that didn't fit in between preventing a war 😅 Their intimacy, both physically and emotionally, was so beautiful 🥹❤️ This really concludes their relationship arc well. 》Charls, the Veretian cloth merchant《 This takes place after "The Summer Palace," a few weeks before Laurents' accention. They are undercover again, helping our favorite merchant on his endeavors (and well, there is another objective I don't want to spoil). This is mainly just really fun(ny) 😂 Especially Charls being so oblivious about who Damen, ehm, Lamen, really is 😂 One of my favorite scenes is Laurent throwing olives in a tavern fight. It ends with Laurents' accention, which is where the whole saga ends, chronologically. So, I think it makes sense to read this last 😌 Top tier short stories for a masterpiece of a trilogy ❤️

Such beautiful short stories of the "Captive Prince" universe. I enjoyed every bit of it and especially Damen's and Laurent's story was a bliss. It also showed me the backgrounds of some other characters and how they became the characters we know from the trilogy. A true recommendation for everyone who loved the other books!
Some really great stories, especially The Summer Palace and Charls The Cloth Merchant were absolutely divine. I liked Pet the least, on one hand because the protagonist isn't my cup of tea, and on the other hand because I felt the ending to be a little too open-ended. But I nevertheless enjoyed every minute of reading this collection, and I still wish there was more of these characters to read!
