Also, an Pratchett hat mich hier trotz der vollmundigen Ankündigung nichts erinnert, wenn man einen Vergleich braucht: Mir kam eher Ritter dunklen Rufs von David Gemmel in den Sinn. Aber wer braucht schon Vergleiche! Cade Ombra ist eine Art Söldnerzauberer, das englische Wort im Roman ist Wondrist. Er soll zusammen mit sechs anderen Magiern einen Auftrag annehmen und sieben magisch begabte Brüder zur Strecke bringen. Egal, was er versucht, er kommt nicht darum herum, selbst seine Gefährten sind bereits von himmlischen und höllischen Mächten auserwählt worden. Was genau hinter diesem Auftrag steckt, wie er ihn erfüllen kann und welche Konsequenzen das hat, wird nach und nach mit vielen überraschenden Wendungen enthüllt. Mir hat das Magiesystem, bei dem jeder Wondrist eine Affinität zu einer anderen Welt und der damit verbundenen Macht hat, gut gefallen. Auch die zusammengewürfelte Truppe an untypischen Helden ist mir ans Herz gewachsen. Die Handlung erschien mir allerdings manchmal etwas zu schnell voran zuschreiten. Was das Ende betrifft, bin ich mir nicht ganz sicher, ob es bewusst in einer Hinsicht offen bleibt, oder ob eventuell eine Fortsetzung geplant ist. Ich tippe aber fast auf Ersteres und fände es ganz passend.
