Yes! I loved it! In this book, Kellen and Ferius explore the country of Gitabria, trying to finish their quest that started at the end of the last book and being inevitably strung into yet another series of events involving Jan'tep mages and conspiracies and danger. What struck me the most is the developing relationship between all of the characters, and their personal growth. My love for Reichis (that I was very doubtful of at the beginning) is growing ever more and seeing how much Kellen has come to care for him just makes me so happy. He is still murderous, prone to stealing and uses every opportunity to bite Kellen (maybe it's just squirrel cat affection, who knows), but he also cares. He follows Kellen everywhere and their bickering is just too hilarious. I would probably die for him. And Ferius! I appreciate her so much. We finally see another bit of her past, of what made her who she is and definitely was moved by all of them. It's amazing how real she has become to me and what a strong role model she is... just gotta keep the swagger, y'know? To sum up the parts I loved most: mechanICAL DRAGONS! (although shortlived), Nephenia (with such a complex character arc that happened in her absence, it's beautiful), the bonding of Reichis and Ishak over stealing, the coins as yet another infinitely interesting part of this world that I can't wait to see more of, Ferius' fights every single time Kellen needed to be saved even when it obviously cost her so much but NO she will pretend that everything's fine, it made me tear up every time it happened, and the casual revelation that she might be bi, I really like that aspect, the finale with Janucha sacrificing herself to stop a war she made possible, oh my god, I was crying at that point. I think I should stop myself here before I recite the whole book. Sebastien de Castell's writing style is on point, like always. When his writing isn't epic, it's sarcastic and funny and I love every part of it. Seriously, I could read his grocery list and still love it. I cannot imagine waiting until the next book, but I suppose I have no other choice. I will be waiting for sure, because this book series is one of my favorites and I need! To know! How it will continue!!
